I think that we are good trading partners with Utah. Don't think that they give up any young bigs though (Favors and Kantner are pretty much untouchable.)They have thought about moving BigAl or Millsap and recently Deven Harris.

Boston gets: Big Al or Millsap, Deven Harris, Hayward and GS's 1st rounder and Utah's 1st rounder.

Utah gets:Paul Pierce and Rondo

http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/5999324

Why for Jazz: Utah needs a point guard for now and the future and are in need of a veteran presence to be a contender for the next year or two. They have a lot of good young talent. They just need someone to distribute (RR) and someone to lead (RR and PP).

As wdleehi suggested in an earlier thread  http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=52590.0, if Utah wants to make a playoff push this year and next this should be real attractive to them.

They get to keep all their younguns except Hayward. With PP, they don't need Hayward right now. They also get a point guard of the future who is a great distributor, which Harris is not.

Why for Boston: Maintaining cap flexibility and getting 1st round draft picks.

We still have KG and Ray's and JO's contracts expiring at the end of this year. Harris and Big Al expire at the end of next year. This gives us many more options with our cap both this year and next.

The two first round picks speak for themselves. Utah's will be late 1st, but Warrior's pick could be lottery. We would then have 4 1st rounders this year AND Hayward. Talk about pieces for the future that we can either use ourselves or trade.

Does Utah do this? Do we?

Don't like it. Harris is trash, Heyward is solid but limited upside, Utah would be a 20ish pick team with this trade and Big Al/Millsap aren't exactly franchise guys to build aroun

I'm against trading Rondo, especially with Pierce but if you do you gotta get pieces for the future for sure...you need to get one of Utah's young bigs or ****. Plus Utah probably wants to keep one Al Jeff in this scenario since he's carried them on his back so far. So Millsap is one piece. Between Favors/Kanter, I think Utah gives up Kanter because with Al Jeff you have a lack of quickness with those knees, Kanter has the same problem. Favors is an explosive athlete and a better defender, rebounder.

Kanter, Burks and Millsap for Rondo and Pierce I'd be down with that.

I like it. Not sure why so many are quick to rip Devin Harris but I think he's a terrific shooter (remember shooting, that's when a player throws up the ball and it goes into the net.)

Also Jefferson would be a great pick up as well.

I think a starting lineup of Harris, Ray, Heyward/Pietrus, KG and Al Jefferson is definitely at least a 6 seed line up.

KG DESPERATELY needs a true center behind him. He hasnt been the same since Perk got traded

Utah gives too much of their future up in that trade. Pierce might have two really good seasons left, but that is a gamble. Their strength right now is the combo of Millsap and Jefferson, which works really well. Until Favors and/or Kanter starts playing at that level, they should keep them together. But as OP points out, they have actually talked about moving one of them, so it is possible.

Rondo and Millsap are two very good contracts, which is very important to complement your stars. The only reason to trade either is to get a superstar (a top 8 player) and for both it is very difficult to make an upgrade without sacrificing too much. (An example: I wouldn't trade Rondo for Westbrook, since I don't think Westbrook can actually carry a team, at least not yet, and the differrence in salary is what could seperate us from a true superstar).

So unless we get Millsap I wouldn't throw in Rondo. And I would probably say the same for Utah. And Utah would never give up picks to make that trade.

Imo Devin Harris is kind of a black hole. At least I don't see any light. So anything to keep him out of Boston ;)

Al Jeff is terrible on defense and can be a blackhole at times. Harris is 29 and already regressing

Kanter, Millsap, Burks and I'm good. but heywad al jeff and harris? no way for a top 5 pg and top (for now) sf

We need offense desperately. Both Big Al and Harris can provide that.

Granted, Harris is not a great distributor, but he can shoot, even if at 29 he is on the downside, which I don't believe. Even if he is, he expires next year as does Big Al.

Defesively, Big Al isn't a great individual defender, but he can rebound real well, another thing we desperately need. Harris is actually a pretty good defender.

Even if we get no production from either of them (which won't happen)we still get Hayward and two 1sts this year. That alone would almost make me do that trade.

Never mind the cap flexiblity we maintain this year and the improvement of cap flexibility with Pierce's contract gone and Big Al's and Harris' expiring.
