Well, the article starts off with the statement "Ever since Jordan retired...." I personally agree with it. The one thing Jordan was, was clutch. How many times did we get to the end with everything on the line and know Jordan was going to take it and even though we knew he was going to take it, it went in.

I also agree with those saying Kobe is the closest since Jordan retired but not as good. I agree with that. He just keeps winning championships. Not by himself, but him and his teammates kept getting the job done. Many times, Kobe has been clutch when they needed him the most. Not always, but better than most.

A lot of people want to put Lebron up there. How clutch has Lebron been? How many teams did he carry to championships? How many clutch shots has he taken and made with everything on the line? This is not even close....
Kobe takes the last shot and makes less of them than his team would make if they just played their normal offense.

He leads the league in last second shots, makes, and misses by far (you know what he doesn't lead in, clutch assits). His percentage isn't good at all, even if you account for a pretty crazy "clutch" year in 2010.

I think the main thing he has going for him in the post-MJ conversation is an identical style and a significant collection of jewelry, not necessarily statistics (as compared to LBJ).

Come on, I know the "celtic thing to do" is bash Kobe at any given chance but lets not be too biased and admit that Kobe is one of the greatest NBA players of all time. In his prime he was nearly unstoppable, and to say Dr. J is above him is silly.

They play the same style. They both have a bunch of rings.

Only think is Jordan did it better, and with more efficiency in an era when defenders could still clutch and grab perimeter players.

Jordan was a unique talent for a reason.

How often does the imitator actually get better than the original?

No one is arguing this.  The debate is post-Jordan.  And, as MJ states, there really is no debate.

Why do great players have to take the last shot?  Did the Celtics really want Russell taking the last shot?  How often did Magic take the last shot?

You don't have to take the last shot to be an all time great player.  That argument is just silly.

And your argument was??? Russell and Magic were BEFORE MJ retired. Keep up dude.

What does that have to do with anything.  My point was, to be an all time great player you don't have to be the guy that takes the last shot.  It is an incredibly silly argument.

Right, you have no point. I said MJ was CLUTCH. Taking last shots was just part of it. Not all of it. You just got silly with it.

Maybe I'm wrong, I just don't think he's worthy of those comparisons.  He's definitely a top 15 player, but he'll never be able to touch any of the all-time greats.  He THINKS he's that great, that's why he takes as many shots as MJ.  And yes, he scores points like those guys but you have to look at what he has to do to get them.

Just not enough efficiency for there to be a discussion.  I mean maybe I value efficiency more than the next guy, but how else do you distinguish the best of the best scorers?  How can people argue he's the best when there are so many guys ahead of him?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
