Quote
Roy Hibbert is eligible for a contract extension from the Pacers, but he may gamble on restricted free agency.

"I'm not saying 100 percent we wouldn't do (an extension), but I'd say it's likely," Falk said Friday. "He likes Indiana, it's a great place, it's worked out well. But it's my opinion that generally, these things are hard to do. If I was an owner I wouldn't do one unless I got a discount ... I think more than anything else, the reason guys do extensions, in my opinion, is when you have a client who is insecure that he's going to get paid. I went through this with Jeff Green a year ago. I tell the guys, don't expect to get one. You're doing the deal a year in advance, and all you're getting is security. Centers don't grow on trees. If the guy has the confidence to wait, he's probably better off waiting."

This would be great for the c's, although I am not sure he fits a running team with Rondo?(McGee seems like he would). The c's should just suck this year and next and keep cap space open until 2013 when Josh Smith ,Love,McGee and Hibbert could all be UFA's

I would have to imagine that Jeff Green would be a big plus to lure Hibbert to the c's. I think Hibbert played with Doc's son at g'town too.

Get a couple  a couple of young studs in the draft and then sign Love or Smith and Hibbert and the c's will be back in business

PG: Rondo/ vet min
SG: Ray  /2012 1st rd
SF: PP (Could possibly amnesty him if he is cooked and free up more cap space.)
PF: Love or Smith/ Bass? JJJ?
 C: Hibbert or McGee/ 2012 Clippers pick

I can't see IND not matching all offers (within reason) for Hibbert.

exactly.  Hibbert would be a nice pickup but it'll take drastically overpaying him to get Indy to pass on him or S&T him

I think the point of the article is that he'll take the QO, wait it out, and then be an unrestricted free agent. If he continues to progress and we have the cap room in 2013, I could see a near-max deal.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

I would give Hibbert or McGee a max deal or close to a max deal.

I read somewhere that Washington wasn't going to max him out.

Hibbert and McGee are gonna get crazy rich...  Big men are few and far between, and they are top players at that position today.  Sound advice from a wise agent...

sound advice from their agents based on the lack of quality big men in the NBA in this era but they're not max contract guys.  They don't score or rebound at an elite level to deserve that kind of money.  of course deserving that money and finding a dumb GM to pay you that much are 2 different things.

If Ainge wouldn't give money to Perk I'm not sure he'd give the needed money here

Regarding McGee...

did you guys read about how he threw the ball of the backboard for a breakaway dunk (even with his team trailing) and flip saunders called him out?  It appears that teammates are divided on this...

sorry, I don't want McGee.  he's a clown who doesn't get it.  sure, he might put up some decent numbers, but he's an immature punk.  flip will lose his job eventually, and it's a shame because he's a [dang] good coach...now he's a babysitter.

This.

I would not go near a max deal for McGee. No way no how. Hibbert on a max deal would even be tough for me to swallow.

I'd consider coming hard after Hibbert on Day 1, with a Rondo-esque contract and see if Indiana blinks. They might prefer to let him go and use their considerable cap room elsewhere, or just plain stammer at giving out a big contract. No max deal, just a solid one.

Something like 4 years, $50M but front loaded as much as possible - make it cost more for Indiana now, and less for us a couple years in. $14M might be too rich for them right now, while in a couple of years $25M for Rondo + Hibbert still in their primes is pretty good value.

Wait another year, stockpile picks and rookie contracts, Pierce will be off the books (or traded to a contender), and we're talking about 2013 with something like:

Rondo, Hibbert, 2 1st rounders (2012), JJJ?, $35M to spend.

All this being said, I know Hibbert isn't a superstar... but if he managed to be a 13/10/2 center moving forward, healthy, and in his prime, I'm warm to the idea of having him and Rondo for basically the price of 1.5 max guys.
