Stuck in China until March I believe. So really I'm asking if there is any way we can sign him to a long-term contract before our cap space opens up this summer. Having him him for end of season/playoffs.

Just yesterday, Chris posited a quite reasonable S&T scenario that would bring Smith to Boston.

No.  There is a limit on how big of a raise a player can get from year to year within a contract.  It used to be 10.5%, now I think it's around 7-8% with the new CBA.

Thanks for the info, guys. I figured there had to be some escalation restriction. Would be thrilled if they could pull off a S&T similar to that one proposed.

Pietrus is nowhere near the offensive player that Smith is, and that is our biggest need right now I think. Both are good 3 point shooters, but does Pietrus have the handle and athleticism to do this?
