MINNEAPOLIS --- Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph will miss up to eight weeks after magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed that he suffered a slight tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee, sources with knowledge of the situation told The Commercial Appeal.

No Aurthur , No Randolph it looks like Memphis is pretty thin at big men position with just Gasol and Speights(if the trade goes through).

I think they are going to struggle big time and may be out of the playoff picture in 2 months. OJ Mayo can clearly be had .

Would Memphis be interested in JO and Etwuan Moore( who is on a rookie contract)

Would leave us with Stiemsma , Wilcox and KG playing center, but then again with JO's health that would likely be out center rotation by the time the playoffs role around anyways.

Tough for Memphis, I was predicitng them to go to the Finals this year.

I think they may be in the market for a big now in addition to Speights, but I don't think the injury riddled JO is going to be a target for them for the same reason we can't rely on him.  They could find a better trade out there I'm sure.

It'd be a nice talent aquisition and possible long term aquisition too but we need a big more than anything, and this would only make that problem worse.

I like Mayo but at this point Id much rather have a starting center rather than too many wing players... right now our depth chart is (Im including Pietrus)

Rondo/Dooling/Bradley
Allen/Daniels/Moore
Pierce/Pietrus/Pav
Garnett/Bass/JJJ
JO/Wilcox/Stiemsma

Trading JO leaves us very weak up front and even though Mayo is a great upgrade to the team, he wouldnt get enough minutes to be productive I feel like.

That is really bad news for the Grizzlies. Major loss on top of a substantial loss in Darrell Arthur.

Memphis' bid for a playoff spot may hinge on Speight's play.

I think it would take more than...moore. Maybe a 2nd/1st round pick.

Too bad for Memphis, they looked to be on the rise. Why is it so many of the teams in the West on the rise have this happen? Do the Lakers practice voodoo? Think Memphis this year, the Trailblazers with Oden/Roy.

Well, looks like MEM is putting any vulnerabilities to rest:

The Memphis Grizzlies will try to get through the loss of Zach Randolph for up to two months by acquiring Philadelphia 76ers big man Marreese Speights.

After learning that Randolph with miss six to eight weeks with a torn medial collateral ligament, suffered Sunday in Chicago, the Grizzlies on Wednesday completed a three-team with Philadelphia and New Orleans.

The deal sends Memphis swingman Xavier Henry to the Hornets.

Completing the transaction are two second-round picks to the 76ers: The Hornets will send theirs from 2013, and the Grizzlies send theirs from 2012.

Good move by them..indeed.

EDIT: TP to Who for first mentioning MEM acquisition of Speights.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Great, I am sure glad I took him yesterday in my fantasy draft with the understanding that he was day to day and was having a precautionary MRI. Oh well, I also picked up Gasol and he should get more numbers now...

Anthony Randolph for OJ Mayo? Seems like it would help both teams.

Chad Ford (1:33 PM)

I think the Wolves would prefer to trade Beasley ... that opens up more time for Derrick Williams and can move Wes Johnson back to his best position at the three.

I like that idea a lot. Beasley for Mayo.

Memphis has already added Speights to bolster the PF position.

I think Beasley or Randolph (and filler) for Mayo would definitely work for both teams.  Minnie gets back a player they traded for Love.  Mayo would end up being their starting SG and give them more firepower with Love for Rubio to develop with.

why is Michael Beasley so widely disliked? I would like to have him, certainly more than OJ Mayo (who sucks)

I think it's because he hasn't lived up to the hype from college or as being the #2 pick in the draft.  He's not a bad player, but he's definitely not a foundation player which is what you hope to get with a #2 overall pick

Me too -- I still think Beasley can grow into a David West level player as a starting four in this league if developed properly.

OJ Mayo is more like a poor man's JJ Redick ... if he continues to be used as a two guard.

I don't like either of them, especially if Beasley truly believes he's a SF.
