Well, they're not really close to the same kind of player. Gamble played SF when Bird was moved to PF late in his career, as Chris Ford wanted McHale to play the 6th man role. Ford wanted to run more, with you guards like Shaw, Lewis and Dee Brown.
Gamble was 6'5" and very much a slashing kind of player. He was a decent rebounder, but not a very good defender. He could light it up from 18 feet in, and his best attribute was his ability to get to the rim and finish (I believe he shot nearly 60% in 1992?).
Moore is not really built like him, and actually plays with the ball more in his hands (Gamble moved withOUT the ball, mostly).
But if Moore can provide offense, and appears to have confidence to take big shots, I'd see him more of a Vinnie Johnson type of player than Gamble.
