Celtics to re-sign Sasha Pavlovic

I think this thread has a lot of what the front page is talking about...I think our expectations were pretty low for this off-season, when looking at things realistically.  Then, you hear about CP3 and West and when those fall through and you're left with Wilcox and Pavlovic, it's a little "ugh".  But, I like what DA's done so far. 

The Baby for Bass trade was [dang] good, the Dooling trade was for a 2nd round pick (I'll take that) and he signed a major piece to our bench (Green) who may play a big role in the future of this organization.  Something that shouldn't be overlooked is the attitude/personality this team will take on.  It's going to be a highly competitive and smart bunch. 

I wouldn't put money on a championship run or anything, but with the circumstances, I'll take it.  Plus, there's still a few more days left of action and I wouldn't put much past Ainge.

I liked what Pavlovic brought to the team last year. Solid regular season player, he defends well and hits shots from 3's.

I'm not sold on going into the playoffs with only him as our shooting guard backup though, hopefully we can improve on that spot between now and then.

Would rather have Posey. At least he wont be "scared" to play lol. I find it hard to believe an NBA player is scared to ball. Maybe lacking confidence, but not scared. And if he is scared then why bring him back?

This signing is meaningless if we don't use his shooting off the bench.

If Doc doesn't play these guys, we can't utilize their strengths.

That's part of the problem with this team, and I'm not yet convinced it'll change this season: So often, Doc doesn't give the bottom half of the roster a chance. True, those guys aren't going to do the heavy lifting, but the Big 3 are no longer capable of being effective for more than 30 minutes a game -- even Ray, as fit as he is, can't be expected to have his legs for that much time on a nightly basis.

Sasha is supposedly a really good defender and decent 3-point shooter, yet he never got into a playoff game last season, even when Boston was desperate for a spark. Will we see him at all this season? Will Trey J get a legitimate shot, or will Doc minimize his opportunities, even though we lack center depth and Johnson's got great upside? Will Doc give Rondo significant rest, or will he let Dooling grow moldy with disuse while Rondo is once again nickel-and-dimed to death with numerous small ailments? Will Wilcox get a real chance to show what he's capable of, or will he just make cameos?

Yes. A washed up scrub is so much better when he's 7 feet tall.

Question about Sasha:

Why has he been so mercurial as a 3-point shooter.  Looking at his stats, he has wavered from 29% to over 40% for annual 3-point averages -- all during his highest MPG/attempts years.

Is there a variable that explains his ups and downs?

Thoughts on his ability to contribute as a legit 3-point threat off the bench?
