Good conversation going on about this in the "Miami holes" thread.

I will always consider Chauncey Billups to be a punk going forward.  No class or professionalism.

Chauncey Billups, a punk?  Why shouldn't he be p---ed?  I'm sure Dolan and whoever replaced Donnie Walsh lied to him and told him they wanted him to be a big part of their team...then a little later, he's amnestied.  Billups is a champ and a big game player.  If he signed on with the Cs I'm sure many would change their tune about him pretty quickly.

How so do you mean Roy?

Some of Chauncey's quotes:

Quote
"A leader can be as disruptive as he can be productive..This is about me now."

Quote
"People take my kindness and professionalism for weakness. They think I’ll be OK with (getting claimed). I won’t be OK with this."

Quote
Billups wants freedom to choose team. Warns those who'd claim him: You'll regret it. "I'm tired of being the glue guy."

It's cool to be upset.  It's not cool to threaten to sabotage your employer by being disruptive and acting unprofessional.

Our expectations for modern athletes are so low.  It's sad.  Chauncey Billups is getting paid $14 million, and yet people think it's okay for him to act like a team cancer.  Because, you know, he's old and stuff.

He said more than that. He said he might like to retire early than start from scratch. No one has claimed him and he's not playing for anyone yet. Being honest saves them time. I mean, jeez, it's not like the guy hasn't paid his dues and been the opposite of some of these modern players his whole career that he can't end his career on his own terms? The spoiled mega stars are ruining it for the blue collar guys.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/975024-knicks-rumors-chauncey-billups-will-be-a-dreadful-pickup-for-any-other-team

Quote
“He’s irate under the circumstances,” Billups' agent, Andy Miller, said. “He felt this would be his final destination, and he was promised that he would be playing for a team that was going to be competing for the playoffs. He has no intention of being open-minded about any possible situation where a team would claim him off waivers unless it’s a team he chooses himself. Buyer beware.”

Maybe he should have played well enough to be more valuable.

I'd be p---ed as well. Thrown in for Melo and then waived.
After a long career he's doing the same thing that Jermaine Oneal is doing. It's not the most professional move, but I can understand his points and sympathize with this cause to a certain extent. Even if he is getting paid a bazillion dollars.
These players have so much money after a 10 year career that ego is worth a lot more than Benjamins.

He definitely wants to go to Miami, doesn't want anyone pushing them out of the race. Smart move by Billups.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

If he had a brain in his head he'd have kept his mouth shut and had his agent deliver a similar message to the teams that might try to claim him.

He may be a punk, but he is still a good player and I would take him on this team anyday.

Now if he goes to the Heat...he is a punk AND a loser, who I obviously would never want.  :P
