The Hornets couldn't have made the trade as proposed as they were over the cap and taking on too much money.  In other words, the Hornets would have had to send additional money to the Lakers in the trade.  Either Ariza and Jack or Okafor had to leave the Hornets for it to work under the financial requirements of the league.

But hey lets just kill a good deal for the Hornets because of whiny owners like Dan Gilbert that don't have all of the information and overact early on.

EDIT:  I suppose it may just be cap holds on Trade Machine and Trade Checker and thus the Hornets may not have to remove any other salary if they get rid of the cap holds.

Your post sounds accurate, as WOJO was tweeting that Okafor may be sent along as well, but that was also around midnight when there was a flurry of speculation on Twitter...

Yeah, they had to rescind their rights to David West and the rest of their free agents (C.Landry, M.Belinelli, A.Gray, W.Green, M.Banks, J.Smith, DJ Mbenga and an old cap hold from Bonzi Wells).

That put them under the cap by about $10 million I believe. Allowing the deal to go through.

Does the trade machine allow you to indicate you're renouncing David West? I know they'd have to give up his rights for the trade.

The point of it all is that the NBA makes its own monsters.

The NBA is  the machine that creates the very thing it says it doesn't want.

Players whine enough and get to go where they want right?

Owners whine enough and they get what they want right?

Superstars whine enough and they get all the close calls they want right?
