Detroit continues to make wise free agency decisions.  :P

I understand that they need players, but tying up mediocre players in long term contracts isn't going to help their rebuilding effort.

I also think that the Prince signing presages an amnesty buyout for one of the Pistons' big contracts. Who has advocated for Villanueva (net detriment to the team), while I think it might be Ben Gordon (more money, more years). It could even be Rip.
I've had this Ben Gordon trade stuck in my head for the last couple of days.

Ben Gordon to Atlanta

(1) Ben Gordon for Kirk Hinrich - start B.Gordon at the point alongside Joe Johnson and let them share the PG duties.

(2) Ben Gordon for Marvin Williams - this was prior to the Prince signing ... Detroit cuts some salary and brings in a younger starting quality SF while Atlanta adds a potent scorer who can either come off the bench (ala J.Crawford) or start (Hinrich, B.Gordon, J.Johnson). Hinrich can cover the two defensively and help hide B.Gordon's D like he did in Chicago.

Also, the whole Tracy McGrady signing which gives them another ball-handler to help Ben Gordon out when he is at the PG position.

Anyway, I would have loved to have seen Atlanta pursue a trade like that. Those guys are far too passive in the trade market. They have good assets. Talent. They should be trying to make a move. Either to add another quality player to the mix or to upgrade one of their stars.

Wasn't these types of contracts the reason the owners locked the players out in the first place?

The owners and their GMs are going to continue to spend like drunken sailors with this system, the only difference is going to be that they will be getting back large checks at the end of the year from the player's escrow fund because they exceeded the 51% payroll level.

The owners needed to be saved from themselves.  That 4 year, $27 million contract could have been 5 years, $36 million under the old CBA.  Somebody needed to limit their idiocy.

TP...I guess that's one way to look at it but I still think that's way too much for Prince.

Eh... Danny Ainge has never really gotten a fair shake from the media and general fan base.  He had such a bad reputation coming into the Big 3 trades with the Toine deal, the OB resignation over the E-Will trade, and the Telfair/Roy deal, that he really only got grudging respect.  Not the plaudits thrown Dumars' way.
