You choose which would you rather want, a ring or just contention

We lease Paul for a year, we basically get a ring barring any injuries

Keep the group the same, we are basically just going to be overpowered by the miami triumvirate.

This is like if the Packers offered the Patriots

Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews for Tom Brady. I'd pull the trigger as much as i love tom brady to death

I voted for the contention.  I've watched the team now since 1970's.  What I love about the Boston Celtics is they keep their stars.  I would have been fine with trading Paul Pierce after the Indiana melt down years ago.  He has completely changed his game since that time.  Now the only way I would want him traded would be ala Bourque to a contender at the end of his career with his ok.  I want to cheer for our TEAM not hire out a partial season to a better player then loose rondo for his career.  The nba has changed, it is no longer power basketball with shaq and duncan etc on the low post.  I want us to compete right through the retirements of PP, Ray, KG etc and have Rondo bridge the gap until we are in contention again.  I do not agree with Danny saying he'd trade McHale, etc when the value was high, you trade role players (like danny) and keep the stars.  From the first preseason game I saw rondo I was smiling, best rookie since Pierce and as tommy said I guy who could end up in the hall of fame.  I want his career to be as a celtic, number retired and we can cheer for our team through championships and playoff games.

Replacing Rondo with Paul guarantees a ring?  This new CBA is more complicated than I thought...

I definitely want Paul if I had the choice...

but it wouldn't be a big enough improvement to give us a ring with our current rotation of big men

Agree. People that think that aren't thinking it through. The team has one Center and he's made of glass. Not saying they wouldn't or wont win but it's unlikely either way so I say just keep Rondo. Especially since I really don't think Paul is worth the 6 or 7 million more per season and he wont re sign anyways.

All the crap about him bringing Howard is just not true. Howard wont play in Boston unless he's old and trying to win a ring and the Celtics are a contender at that point. He doesn't want to play here it's that simple. There will be other teams in better positions to attract them. I for one think there's a 5% chance they end up on the same team anyways.

CP3 guarantees nothing especially since his knee is a massive question mark. If anything CP3 greatly reduces the teams chances of a ring this year. I'm not going to say that Rondo is better cause right now he's not but I think Rondo has chemistry with this team and they've won a championship together before. I would argue that Rondo is a better value and due to his contract easier to build around but that's for another thread at another time.

I'm not voting because these two options are related to Rondo & Paul. Just because we trade Paul 1. doesn't mean we win a ring and 2. doesn't mean it follows years of suckage.

If we trade for Paul, we probably have a better a chance to resign him and pick up Howard than we do to go off into obscurity. The the very least we get some decent assets back for Paul in a sign and trade next offseason

CP3 does not guarantee a ring; but puts us right up there as favorites (barring no key injuries).

If the current core stays intact I see us getting a lower playoff seed and a very tough road to the Finals.  We aren't going to beat all the elite teams on the road (see 2010 and 2011 playoffs).

I chose whatever gives us the best shot at winning the ring.

We can have years of contending, which, by definition means a good shot at it.

Rebuilding with Rondo and others, is not close to even contending for the playoffs even.

This is not accurate, and I'm not going to vote.

- CP3 does not guarantee a ring.  I agree that we would have a better shot though.

- At the end of next year, if CP3 decides to leave, its not "suckage".  The reason would be b/c CP3 would be part of a Sign & Trade, and we'd get a lot back for him.  As a result, we'd likely be better setup for the future in that case than if we had Rondo + mediocre players.
