At least one general manager believes the Magic won't trade Dwight Howard to the Lakers.

Orlando would let Howard sign outright in free agency "rather than take garbage the Lakers would offer," said the GM. "Nobody wants their old guys."

If the Lakers are insisting on Gasol/Odom, I agree.

If it's Bynum/Odom for Howard/Turkoglu, it makes a bit more sense for the Magic.  I'd want more of a sure thing health-wise, and I'd want a player signed for a longer period of time.  However, Bynum is a legit trade chip.

Yeah, I can see why Magic would say no to Gasol and Odom but they aren't "garbage"...but I found that funny as a rival fan.

They can't trade Bynum to both places. Neither team, from what I understand, want's a 31 year old Gasol on a max deal. They want young players and draft picks.

Sadly I believe Howard ends up in Los Angeles as a Laker.

I still believe CP3 finds his way here even if it's for a year.

and the Magic shouldn't...they should be in the same boat as the Hornets, they should get something in return for the future, not aging star and an injury prone center

Who Joe Smith? Kobe? They would only look at bynum, odom, and gasol in return. why not odom and bynum for howard and filler? Please don't happen but I dont see the trade as unrealistic.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Why would the Magic trade for a 24 year old center with the knees of a 40 year old already and an inability to stay healthy?

Bynum has missed 120 games over the past 4 years. Nearly 40% of the games played in that time.

Seriously, I wouldn't touch that with a 400000000 foot pole if I were the Magic or the Hornets.

Especially when there is tons of teams bidding and frankly better pieces being offered.

Are we sure that GM isn't Danny Ainge?  ;)

Bynum and Odom seems like not that bad a deal. Like everyone else here, I'm hoping it won't happen, but the Celtics or Knicks couldn't compete with that offer, and it would be tough for the Nets to beat it either.

The wild card will be whether he wants to sign an extension wherever he goes. Same problem as with CP3.

It seems to me the Lakers need a third team to take Gasol.  I wonder if Portland might be that team.  This trade works and seems to be at least somewhat beneficial to all three.

To Orlando - Batum, Odom, Camby, Blake, 2 firsts from Lakers
To Portland - Gasol
To LA Lakers - Howard, Babbit (necessary filler), Arenas

Orlando gets a young up and coming SG and two solid veterans on decent deals to keep them in the playoff hunt.

Portland gets a veteran all star leader to pair with Aldridge and Oden down low, for Batum (who is similar to Matthews) and Camby who is probably gone at the end of the year anyway.

Lakers obviously get Howard and it costs them paying Arenas.  The trade would work without Blake and Arenas and Turk instead if it was a real problem for the Lakers.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
