Troy Murphy....again?...anyone?

What's the argument against bringing T. Murph back for another shot with our roster this depleted and the current NBA climate the way it is?

The argument against Murphy is that he has completely lost it and would play so poorly that the team would pretty much have no choice but to cut him mid-season and look for someone better.  I do not believe that argument.  I think he can be an above-average rebounder whose 3-point% can rebound to the 33% range.  That's useful.

I would pick gambling on Murphy over Kwame Brown, if I could only have one.

I want them to bring back T.Murphy or G.Davis ... but not both.

Use one of them as the primary backup PF and keep JaJuan as the third string PF + bring in two defensive orientated backup centers (say Przybilla + Diop or Kwame and Fesenko) to help out Jermaine in the middle. That is the big man rotation I'd like to see. 

No point in bringing back both PFs (Davis/Murphy). Too weak defensively.

Given how Troy Murphy played last season, I doubt he is on many teams radar. However, since the Celtics have had a much closer look than other teams at him, I would be very much for a resigning.

If nothing he would be a rather useful and versatile big-man, even if he is the 10th player in the rotation. Should he return somewhat to his former self I could see him being a key piece off the bench, potentially even a 6th man. This is of course rather wishful thinking, but, an injury ridden season aside, Murphy has always been able to play and produce fairly well.

If he is available for the cheap (which I assume), it is a  "low risk, high reward" type of deals that Danny likes to make.

I think the Davis point is a very good one.  We are all expecting Johnson to give us some meaningful minutes.  If we can have Murphy as a near end of bench guy at an affordable price then great.  10-15 minutes a game and hitting his jumper he'd be perfect
If we can round out our bench with guys like murphy, sasha and marquis that is pretty good as end of bench guys

I, for one, would rather gamble on Murphy for one year at low cost than Davis for multiple years at a higher cost.

Addition by subtraction with Davis as far as I am concerned.

that he was so rusty he couldn't see the court despite our terribly depleted bench last season, and now he's had an elongated, locked-out off-season during which he's grown rustier.

I think murphy is or used to be a better rebounder than Baby...he didnt really get a chance to play last year so why not give him another try

Sounds like Davis is going to leave either through sign and trade or just FA. I'd like Murphy back as a minimum salaried player for depth purposes.

I'd rather re-sign Murphy than Big Baby : I feel like Murphy is a "low cost, possibly high reward" player while Big Baby is a "big cost, too risky" player knowing his tendency to be a selfish and lazy player.
