1) Available players jumping overseas.
2) Players that have already played their last game and do not know it yet (I am staring at you KG and RA).
3) Franchises losing value as the lockout drones on with the possibility of CONTRACTION.
4) Loss of fan interest and support.
5) Loss of corporate sponsorship leading to poorer future TV contracts and less BRI
6) The owners may control spending for a while until the chase of a championship induces more spending and the cycle begins all over again. There is evidence this is happening in hockey and we might get another lockout there.

Add your lists here.

If anything it seems that the value of franchises has risen in anticipation of and during the lockout, because prospective owners know that the next CBA will be much more favorable to them, likely giving them a much better chance of turning a profit.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Oh yes the Wall Street principle of being an economic leading indicator applies to investing in NBA franchises. That is precisely what is wrong with todays economic model both here in the NBA and in the real world. We are in it for the quick buck and then getting out instead of producing value to society. What these fooish newby hardline owners do not understand is that you must satisfy the paying customer if they are to return (ie buy season tickets, merchandising, the league pass subsription). To do that, you must treat your employees (ie the players) well so they want to play on your team. Mark Cuban and Jerry Buss get it while Dan Gilbert and Robert Sarver do not get it. Owning a sports team means you are competing for attention (Sports fans wallet) which means you get paid to win.

The root cause of this lockout is the player agents vs the hardline owners (Gilbert and Sarver have taken over from Paul Ga$ton) for control of the NBA. Billy Hunter and David Stern are just messenger boys to the media at this point and doing a very poor job of it I might add.

The people that are getting screwed are the Rookie contract players and the referees along with the arena and front office personnel and all the ancillary businesses that depend on Basketball games to be played.

This lockout is not a good thing and is going to do a lot more damage if this is not resolved.

I don't think they will recover from this for a while.  Joe Blow on the street does not get why people are complaining about making 5 million instead of 7 million.  Both owners and players come across as greedy and egotistical.

There are more entertainment options up there everyday.   Sure we fans here will still follow the C's but a casual fan might not come back to the game.

Baseball got lucky with McGwire and Bonds and the home run race to rekindle their sports.  Even though it was a chemically enhanced performance it brought attention back to the game.   What will bring it back to the NBA?   I don't think the HEAT will as people do not like them as a whole.  Both the C's and the Lakers are getting long in the tooth.  The Bulls?  A young coming out of nowhere?   Will any of these really bring back the fans that leave in droves?   I don't think so.

The NBA usually has it's best ratings when dynasties clash.   I don't see the Bulls without Jordan being that.   I know a lot of guys who were MJ fans but not Bulls fans.

Now we hear whispers of players going overseas and a league formed by the players.  This lockout is not a good thing indeed.

We will have to keep track of players going overseas and how many of them sign non opt out clauses. I can see a situation where the NBA gets talent starved in the three years following the lockouts because they cannot get the best international players to sign up due to a lack of trust. Plus the US college kids find better opportunities overseas.

Competitive Balance in the NBA will not happen until you contract at least six teams (more like twice that number). Perhaps they need an NBA development league, an NBA challengers league and the NBA premier league to promote and rebuild professional basketball in America.
