While using Itunes over the past couple of days, I had been getting sporadic pop-ups asking me if I'd like to upgrade my Itunes to the latest version. I had ignored the first few for no other reason than to avoid any problems that may or may not have come up in the process of installation. After I realized how relentless Itunes is with the upgrade pop-ups, I finally gave in and agreed to upgrade, only to run into the exact problem that I feared in the first place... stupid problems that would not have existed had I not upgraded.

I haven't lost any of my files and the audio is still crisp coming from my Ipod with headphones, but when it is plugged into my computer with a USB cord, the Itunes audio through my computer speakers sounds horrible. It almost sounds demonic.

Meanwhile, the audio from any other program or website is fine. If I go on YouTube right now, everything sounds normal. But Itunes is messed up.

I tried going to Controls up top, but it won't even let me click on "Audio & Subtitles," so I am really not sure what to do. I've closed the program countless times, with and without my Ipod plugged into the computer, and I've even restarted my computer. Nothing. It still sounds crazy through my computer speakers, even though there seems to be no problems at all with any of my music files.

If I have to uninstall/reinstall, I guess I gotta do what I gotta do, but I imagine a reinstalled version of Itunes would not contain any of my files. I would love to avoid having to go through the long headache of re-adding thousands of songs to my Itunes library. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does the audio through Itunes itself sound OK (stuff from your hard drive not Ipod)?

Yup

I am confused about why you'd listen to your itunes library from your ipod through your computer? Why not listen direct from your computer? Do you not have enough memory to store your music files on your hd? Also, what generation ipod do you have? I just recently got an update for my ipod nano software and have kept up with all the itunes updates and everything is good on my end. Are you on a PC? Are you running an older OS that may not be compatible with the recent updates?

No, even when my Ipod is not plugged in, it plays poorly from my Itunes library as well. But it's only Itunes. Everything else on my computer sounds/plays perfectly.

Also, I have the Ipod Classic. My computer is a PC.

re-set the ipod. Almost always solves the problamo.

I tried that, but the Ipod isn't the problem. Something to do with the new version of Itunes. I'll probably just end up reinstalling Itunes on my computer. Oh well.

Thanks for the help fellas, TP's to all.

go on the apple boards--I bet you aren't the only person having the problem, so someone may be able to help. Also, ipod classic--what year? You may need to download a software upgrade from the itunes store...
