Then we can choose only one between Jeff Green and a MLE center, right? It seems to me that Ainge is unlikely to give up Jeff Green at this point. So..

Danny can sign a player to a one year MLE contract.

That would take them out of the running for the top MLE targets but still get the team some some help while maintaining their 2012 cap space.

Just bring Green back on his one year qualifying offer.

Sign a one year MLE big man.

That's the best plan that I see.

Depending upon the new CBA, we might now be able to sign either Green *or* a long-term MLE guy and still be able to afford Howard.

If the amnesty clause were to take effect, couldn't the Celtics release Pierce, free up that space, then resign him to a minimum contract? That would put the C's in position to sign Green, bring back KG and maybe Allen in a limited role and still have enough for a max guy like D. Howard.

This is the only way the amnesty cluase could benifit the Celtics.

It depends how the amnesty clause is written, but I would assume that owners would close this loophole.

If I am remembering correctly, teams weren't allowed to sign their released player for the duration of the contract ... after being released via the amnesty release clause the last time around.

I remember Dallas weren't allowed to go near Michael Finley until they had finished paying off his old contract.

Edit: Yeah, I just looked it up. Finley had 3 years left on his deal and wasn't allowed to return to Dallas until after that point.

So because the Celtics have their finacial house in order this clause will only hurt. Lame...

Green is not good enough to take the chance of Pierce not resigning with the Celtics.

Sign a one year MLE big man.

Last off-season, Jermaine O'Neal was the rare example of a player who would sign a MLE contract for less than three seasons.  That's one reason why I don't consider JON to be one of the worst uses of the MLE last year.  Now consider why O'Neal was available for a shorter contract and think about what players out there might be willing to sign a short deal for the same reasons.  Which big men fit that description?

I know the picking are slim.  That is why the Celtics need to resign Davis for a one year contract.

Maybe they can use their amnesty on the MLE C next year thus making it a one year contract.   :)

I hope we can use Green as trade bait to tell you the truth. He isnt going to help us playing 15 minutes a game behind Pierce, thats a job for a guy like Josh Howard. If we can turn Green into a legit big man, and sign that big man to an extension then Im all for it. Is there any combo of players not named Rondo we could package with Green in an offer for Howard?... Hmm i guess my thinking is a little far fetched.

I wonder if he could net a guy like Paul Millsap in a mid-season trade.

Give Utah a legitimate starting small forward to complement their young big men and shift Gordon Hayward to the two guard slot. That would create an interesting young nucleus.

Anderson Varejao may be another possible target. You have to wonder how committed the Cavs are to keeping a well paid garbage man on their books.

Tough to say how much trade value Jeff Green has until we know the contract he signs. If it's a large deal, his value could plummet quickly. If it's a fair to cheap deal, one of those two guys might be attainable.

I think Green might be here just for that purpose, making a trade.

Green, a couple of draft picks (Two Boston 1sts and the Clipper 1st) and one of the high priced vets (who can then be bought out or amnestied out of Orlando and come back to Boston) for Howard.

Of course first they have to trade Rondo for Paul...

If you believe in those types of dream scenarios.
