I'm actually almost as excited about this as I am the other two flashier deals (Albert and Ocho)
This is all about the best value approach. These guys are veterans so they'll be easy to coach up and if they have anything left in the tank it is a huge upside deal. If not, no big deal.
Odd dynamic with Andre Carter calling out Haynesworth last year but it isn't like he was alone and if anything I'm all for having someone around that could spot some early signs of trouble with Fat Albert.
I am loving these signings too. This reminds me a lot of the year Belichick went out and got Moss, Welker, and Stallworth. It came right after the Pats came up short in the playoffs largely because they tried to go cheap at reciever. So, it was essentially an admission of the mistake he had made.
This seems to be the same thing. The Pats have tried to go cheap on the D-line the last couple years, after they traded away Seymore, and it has decimated their pass rush, and really stunted the abilities of an incredibly talented young defense.
So, now Belichick has basically admitted he cannot pull a passrush out of thin air, and has gone out to load up on the D-line, both to directly build a passrush, and to allow guys like Mayo and Spikes more room to roam.
Obviously, I would be more excited if he had done this a year ago, but I am just glad he got there, and I think it is going to make a HUGE difference this year to be able to control the line of scrimmage like they did 5 or 6 years ago. Its going to open things up for the edge rushers, its going to allow the LBers to run more freely, and it is going to help prevent the DB's from having to cover for 5 or 6 seconds.
I am VERY excited about this team, if they can stay somewhat healthy.
