Bunch of Patriots D-Line signings the past few days:

Shaun Ellis
Andre Carter
Mark Anderson
Gerard Warren (resigned)

It will be interesting to follow as there are going to be a bunch of cuts at some point.

I think this spells the end for Ron Brace.  Do you guys agree?

Yeah, certainly looks that way.  Although lets see who is healthy in a couple weeks.

He certainly seems to be on the bubble.  These pre-season games are gonna make or break a guy like him.

Yes, that was my thinking as well.  He hasn't even practiced yet -- if its because of injury, he could end up on PUP or whatever they call it, which would be a lucky break for him.

Not so sure. Ellis, Carter and Warren are all old and past their pimes.  I'm not saying I'm not psyched -- I am.  But, it is likely they don't all pan out well.  I don't know how many D-linemen the Pats can keep, but Brace is young and I think one of the old guys is bound to fall.  That said, Brace has not exactly been the picture of durability.

I kind of agree with this. Stroud was cut too. I think they're just cycling through guys all over the team which might be a natural by product of the lock out. They just resigned McGowen too, and then cut him a week later.  It's going to be a very interesting pre season.

There's no way Sammy Morris makes the team unless someone gets hurt

I'm actually almost as excited about this as I am the other two flashier deals (Albert and Ocho)

This is all about the best value approach.  These guys are veterans so they'll be easy to coach up and if they have anything left in the tank it is a huge upside deal.  If not, no big deal.

Odd dynamic with Andre Carter calling out Haynesworth last year but it isn't like he was alone and if anything I'm all for having someone around that could spot some early signs of trouble with Fat Albert.

I am loving these signings too.  This reminds me a lot of the year Belichick went out and got Moss, Welker, and Stallworth.  It came right after the Pats came up short in the playoffs largely because they tried to go cheap at reciever.  So, it was essentially an admission of the mistake he had made.

This seems to be the same thing.  The Pats have tried to go cheap on the D-line the last couple years, after they traded away Seymore, and it has decimated their pass rush, and really stunted the abilities of an incredibly talented young defense.

So, now Belichick has basically admitted he cannot pull a passrush out of thin air, and has gone out to load up on the D-line, both to directly build a passrush, and to allow guys like Mayo and Spikes more room to roam.

Obviously, I would be more excited if he had done this a year ago, but I am just glad he got there, and I think it is going to make a HUGE difference this year to be able to control the line of scrimmage like they did 5 or 6 years ago.  Its going to open things up for the edge rushers, its going to allow the LBers to run more freely, and it is going to help prevent the DB's from having to cover for 5 or 6 seconds.

I am VERY excited about this team, if they can stay somewhat healthy.
