That reason is actual high level expierience and production.

Look at the huge misses Dan has made, Gerald Green off the charts athlete with perfect shooting guard size, put he was a young punk who never proved anything after high school.

JR Giddens another really good athlete, long arms, but again a character problem, lets learn from this Danny as much as I live the Vince Carters of the world. Giddens had major questions coming in about his attitude which many people said here at the time.

Marcus Banks, again super fast, strong, compact athletic demon, who never really showed a high basketball IQ.

Avery Bradley freshman, really athletic, a big question mark to me now, maybe he shows up this year.

Now dealing Danny's hits with super solid production on a collegiate level are, Delonte West, great player 3 years with St Joes a legend there.

Tony Allen at least 3 years, Big Baby Junior great college career. Leon Powe another productive career. Ryan Gomes 50th overall great great pick, proven, productive player that was a slow tweener.

The kids we selected were the most winning players in Purdue history with 107 wins, and they were the one two punch for the team last year, avg almost 40 ppg together.

I'll take that any day over some high school punk that never proved anything besides beating downsix foot high school kids.

Point being has Ainge drafted anyone who has been a great proven college player that has flopped the way some of his swing for the fences type picks.

JR Giddens had a very nice 2 year run with New Mexico, and his "attitude problems" were not what caused him to fail with the Celtics.  It's easy to make up revisionist history.  Who knows how good Jajuan will be ... but he was the 27th pick in one of the weakest drafts in modern history, so don't count on too much.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I don't get how we can say this was one of the weakest drafts in NBA city. My point is look 5, 7, 10 years down the road and look at how many starters, rotation players, and bench warmers are on NBA rosters.  Looking at the 2007 draft, that looks pretty bad now with only Durant and Joakim Noah playing significant starting roles. Oden has apparently busted - imagine that - another Portland Trailblazer big man bust.

1999 looks real good with Dirk Nowitzki and Paul Pierce leading their respective teams to one ring.

Danny knows he needs help right away and drafting two college seniors from a top ten program in the toughest conference in the nation is a great place to start. These two Purdue boys are winners and should continue to grow under the tutelage of Doc Rivers, KG, PP, RA, and Rondo.

So Poo-Poo on the naysayers and lets get this CBA done and get back to talking basketball instead of monitoring Larry Coon's CBA website.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

As far as role players this was a very solid draft. When people say that this was a weak draft, it just means there's a lack of potential superstars or franchise-changing talents.

The 2007 draft didn't live up to expectations but this was still a quality draft. You're forgetting players like Al Horford, Mike Connely, Marc Gasol and a bunch of other role players.
