Boston trades TE (Daniels) and a 2nd to Detroit for Ben Wallace.

Gives the Celtics two C that can defend and rebound going into FA.  Gives them more flexibility to add talent.  (instead of have to think C, C, C, C, C, C...)

And still usable as a 15-20 minute defender off the bench.  Just expect no offense.

I think Wallace wants to retire as a Piston.  I definitely could see him retiring if the Pistons try to trade him.  He hasn't ruled out retiring this off-season, but has said he is inclined to come back for one more year, pending an assessment of how his body feels.  He's one of those guys who might actually retire if there is an extended lockout.

i like this idea a lot.  Wallace is close to retirement, but playing alongside KG might be just what the doctor ordered...
Celtics fan for life.

I thought that Wallace had left some money on the table specifically to play with Detroit.  Maybe last year's debacle has soured him on the team, though.

He does seem like the type that would like to latch and be a contributor to a veteran team like the C's.  Could see him fitting in perfectly with KG and Pierce and Ray.  They're all warriors.  If JO could stay healthy, that'd be a heckuve defensive frontcourt.

I like it.

Injuries and the death of his brother supposedly have weighed heavily on Wallace contemplating retirement.  He's probably in the same emotional place that Jermaine O'Neal was before he announced he would return for one more season.

This doesn't sound like a guy who wants to leave Detroit.  From the Detroit Free Press:

Quote
"I really haven't made a decision yet, but I'm leaning more toward playing," said Wallace, who will turn 37 in September.

Wallace, a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year during his first stint with the Pistons, wasn't as effective last season after the eye-opening 2009-10 season during which he resembled the Big Ben who rocked the Palace after every blocked shot or high-flying dunk.

He can still provide veteran leadership to a young team. He added that he isn't concerned about who will replace fired coach John Kuester.

"I'm at home, and regardless this is where I'm going to finish at," Wallace said. "It doesn't really matter."

Why does Detroit do this?  At such a low, 1 year salary, he's a pretty tradable asset.  Especially for a team wanting to get low enough under the cap for Dwight and CP3.  I'd think he could get more back than a late 2nd round draft pick.

But yes, it would be great for the celtics.

Ben Wallace is more of a PF than a C at this point in his career.

He doesn't really have the energy to be a quality undersized center anymore. More useful against player's his own size physically + when playing alongside a bigger bodied player that allows him to roam a bit more on team defense.

Wallace loves Detroit, he doesnt want to leave.

Butttt his presence would have made a HUGE Difference against Miami this year
