"I really believe we have it. Between me, Ray and Kevin, we’ve stayed pretty healthy this year. Ray’s probably the most healthy and in-shape guy in the league, so I have no doubt he’ll come back strong for maybe three or four years. KG got through another year. This was a healthy year for him for the most part. And I’ve been for the most part healthy, so I believe we can come back and make another run." Paul Pierce. Sums up a lot of what I'm thinking.
I'm all for keeping the core. The chemistry is awesome, I'm on the "Green has potential" boat and the idea of three Hall of Famers coming off the bench is just amazing (plus I would really love them to retire in green).
Arroyo, Pavlovic and Murphy are definitely going to be shed. There's no question. Baby and Krstic might be gone but that's tentative.
I don't believe that Chris Paul or Dwight Howard should be in Celtics uniform. First and foremost, they both have lots of pursuers and takers, we'll be losing big bucks and lots of opportunity by getting them. Chris Paul has weak knees anyway. (From this, you could probably extrapolate that I'm sticking with Rondo). Everything just works right now.
IF we are conservative and keep most of the roster, we need players at the four and the five.
Out of the Big Three, KG is probably the one most affected by age. Pierce's game is almost timeless and Ray is fitter than most men in their prime. Even if we kept Big Baby, he's not reliable and his knees are literally collapsing due to his weight (I just learned that they have a weight limit on his contract, or maybe I misinterpreted it).
So, any suggestions for a solid PF and center?
