Sadly,

The Globe is reporting that former Celtic, BC & Durfee high standout Chris Herren was arrested for heroin possession.

This kid has a tough go at it.  Here's hoping he somehow overcomes the odds.

Former NBA player Herren facing drug charge

June 6, 2008

FALL RIVER, Mass. --Former NBA player Chris Herren faces drug charges after Fall River police found him slumped over the steering wheel of his running car after it hit a utility pole.

Sgt. Thomas Mauretti says an officer responding to the crash Wednesday saw a hypodermic needle and a small blue bag that he recognized as packaging for heroin in the car. The officer believed the 32-year-old Herren had overdosed.

Herren was transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition Friday morning.

He has been summonsed to court to face charges of driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a class A drug and reckless operation. No court date has been set.

It was not immediately clear if Herren had a lawyer.

Herren, who played for the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics from 1999 to 2001, has faced drug charges before.
I love my kids, call me a sap - it's true.

Not a good thing.

Slumped over the steering wheel with your car wrapped around a telephone pole and some needles and heroin kickin' around would qualify as a rock bottom place to be.
Yup

I played aganist Herren in high school when he was at Durfee. Dudes a PUNK straight up and I don't feel bad for him at all. So much talent and he blew it...literally. I'm glad my team was the one that sent him home in the MIAA tournament back in day. Go Catholic Memorial HS!

If I remember correctly, this is not the first time he has been found at an accident, drugged out of his mind.

If he wants to kill himself, thats fine, he already threw away a potential career over drugs, but to continiously jeopordize the lives of innocent people is appalling.  I hope for once, the court system decides to extend a lengthy jail sentence to Chris so that he cant put others in harms way.

I'll always be grateful for the 5 3's Herren threw in for my roto team one game when I picked him up soon after he became a Celtic.  I cut him soon after.

All I know about heroin is that I'm really, really glad I never tried it (or have even seen it, for that matter).  It's a real buttkicker and takes over lives.
Yup
