I decided to wrote some of my thoughts for the first round, i hope you will like it.
First i'm going to rate the players with grades 1 to 5 (5 is best and i consider playoff rotation guys are those who are graded 3 or better, those who are graded 1 and 2 according to me are not good enough to be in the rotation on a good team)
Knicks:
C.Anthony, A.Stoudemire = 5
C.Billups = 4
L.Fields, T.Douglas = 3
Celtics:
K.Garnett,R.Rondo,P.Pierce,R.Allen = 4
S.O'Neal,J.O'Neal,G.Davis,J.Green,D.West = 3
I know that all of you will not agree with this but it's my opinion. As you can see Celtics have 9 good enough rotation guys and the Knicks have only 5. We all know that we are much deeper team than us. Other players who i grade less than 3 will be used but i think thay will not be important.
Knicks bench is really bad but their coach make them look good and because they score and how they usually score? by shooting a lot of three point shots. Even that guy S.Williams is scoring a lot and he is not a good player. Also thair starting unit is shooting too many trees and to much isolation especially since Melo came. We beat them in all 4 games so far but they attempted about 25 3point shoots in those games.So lets see what are the biggest strengths and weaknesses for both teams
Knicks strengths: Isolation,3point shots
weaknesses: overall defense,limited bench
Celtics strengths: great defense,extra pass,balanced offense
weaknesses: 4th quarter,rondo's jumper
If i was Doc i would try to use the above written to beat them and i have a few thought on what should we do.
1. I think you will all agree on this because you all talk about in other threads and that is - toughness.
2. Keep making the extra pass because in 3 games against the Knicks Rondo averaged 16.7 assists and lot of assists on cuts and scoring easy points will kill their bad defense.
3. Amare is the only valuable big guy they have. We are not afraid of Turiaf,Jeffries and williams right? So we attack the paint. We should score more than 50 point per game in paint. KG is proven scorer against the Knicks, i hope Shaq will be there and two other guys who HAVE to attack the paint are Rondo and Pierce. The Captain is playing great and he will go inside but Rondo has to make one or two lay ups otherwise he is not dangerous and Billups will not guard him close. If rondo goes in the paint at least twice they will have to pay more attention to him so the assist number will raise.
4.I had to write this in new point because i think is very important. Glen Davis please stop shooting jumpers and go inside. You are energy guy. Go inside and show your energy. I red somewhere that big baby is most effective when he cut to the rim, so start doing that.
5. Our starting lineup should play their game. High field goal possesions and great defense but i expect a lot also from our bench. Like i sad their bench is not good. They are just average ball players who try to out score the opponents and if they make shots they can outscore so i'm suggesting to our bench to play their game. Our bench should not copy our starting line up and play high % offense, they should run and score. Delonte, Jeff, BBD they are important in this series they should destroy Knicks bench we can not allow Bill Walker and S.Williams to outscore our bench, that can't happen.
6. Our 4th quarters are really bad and that was the reason why we lost last year game7, and not because Perkins didn't play. But i can't understand why Doc is not using Green more when we make the trade defense for offense. Maybe green still not good enough on the defensive end but i will take Green hook shoot any time of the day against BBD jumper. What i think is close the games with Green. If we have trouble scoring in the 4th, what is the best way to score? Go inside. So use Green's hook and KG's turnaround jumper late in games if Pierce and Allen can't make shoots.
