“If we don’t do nothing else, we have to play defense. We have to play defense,” Davis said of the second unit. “I don’t care if we don’t make a shot in the second team. I don’t care if we don’t get a layup or anything. We need to play defense. The second team needs to play defense and it’s my fault. I’m the most experienced guy on the second team, and I need to bring that intensity to those guys. Cant look backwards, got to look forward, and I’m looking forward to practice tomorrow, making sure that we know what we’re supposed to do.”

Davis plans to review game tape and talk to the second unit on Thursday. They will get help when Wafer, Jermaine and Shaquille O’Neal return from injuries, but they can’t wait around for that to happen. They have to find their rhythm with the players they have now.

“Every game means a lot to us right now,” Davis said. “We’re trying to get as many wins as possible to finish out the year strong. We want to achieve one of our goals and that’s winning the Eastern Conference and having home court advantage. Right now, we’re losing games and we’re losing time. So we’ve got to get it together as soon as possible.”

Glad to see Baby showing some urgency and to hear that he's going to do something about the subpar play we've been seeing lately.

It feels good to hear someone with a sense of urgency. Someone who feels the EXACT same way I do. I hope this translates into a successful end of season run.

He should apologies for the second unit play of the last two seasons because he's been actually adequate this season on the second unit. The apology for his 1st unit play I will never accept. I spit on it actually, with chewing tobacco.

Good to see him have a sense of urgency, especially on the defensive end.  Unfortunately I think the team also needs to have a sense of urgency on the offensive end (and this wasn't always the case).

Well, he did also address offense in the article:

Quote
“[We  have to] make sure that we know what we’re running out there,” he said. “Sometimes I feel like we don’t know what we’re running. We need to go our guys that we go to - like Delonte [West], Jeff Green. I think with Von [Wafer] back, it gives us another scoring opportunity out there. I think we need to get more ball movement. I think we have options with Jeff Green in the post, but at the same time, I think we need more ball movement. And we need to find it somewhere.”

Of course, some people may interpret that as Big Baby thinking the ball doesn't move enough in his direction on offense.

“Every game means a lot to us right now,” Davis said.

That's the scariest part to me: if they're really putting some effort out there and still lose to the Grizzlies..  ::)
The Celtic in me.

I don't see why people would interpret it that way when he mentioned Green, Delonte and Wafer and not himself.

ZING!
I guess its a step in right direction as he has always come off as immature.  The statement is a prof. thing to do.
I personally don't want the team to have an on/off button.  If they do I hope its turned full throttle on for playoffs.  Otherwise I think we need a player to really stand up and get everyone going.
