i found this on HoopsHype, interesting and kind of funny:
Celtics legend Larry Bird joined The Dan Patrick Show and had this exchange with the host about C’s point guard Rajon Rondo: * Dan Patrick: “Who’s the guy you didn’t draft, look back on and go, ‘You know what, I’m surprised by how good he is’?” * Larry Bird: “Rondo.” * DP: “What was it about Rondo that made you nervous about drafting him?” * LB: “His shooting.” * DP: “He still can’t shoot.” * LB: “No, but he can play.” * DP: “Could you teach him to shoot?” * LB: “It’d take awhile.” WEEI.com

Interestin on how he says it'd take a while to improve Rondo's shot.  Is it really that bad that it would take a while for Larry Bird to improve it?

Then again some people just aren't good teachers.

Many people here have pointed his out already...Rondo's technique/shot form is flawed. I think Rondo is a good student and Larry is a good teacher...but form takes a while to be corrected, imo....especially when you've been practicing the same form over and over.

Too much stock is being focused on Rondo's shooting, because with the right players, he wouldn't take these many shots. Anyone ask Larry about his Pacers point guards situation in Indiana. Oh mention Jamal Tinsley or TJ Ford to the point guard expert. Thanks for not drafting him Larry.

Larry was complimenting Rondo..not dissing his shooting.

Larry would be welcome to teach him to shoot, if he wanted...  I certainly wouldn't complain.

Although the Pacers probably would.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Form is overrated.

And it would make little sense having Larry Bird trying to fix Rondo's form.

It's not that Rondo's overrated, per se. It's that defense/passing/rebounding and the like are overrated.
