Adrian Woj just tweeted the following series about Frank leaving.

As for coach-in-waiting with Celtics should Doc leave, no one knows what Danny Ainge will do. Frank would be a candidate, but no assurances.

LFrank would be an interesting hire for UT. Excellent tactician/player development, recruiting history/relationships in state's hotbeds.

With NCAA sanctions likely, UT would likely have to offer long contract and allow Frank to finish Celtics season. No way he bails on Boston.

Frank has history in Knoxville as an assistant, and league sources say it's perhaps only college job that would intrigue him to leave NBA.

As @AlexKennedyNBA reports, Lawrence Frank candidate for Tennessee. He's turned back Big East overtures in past year, but UT's different.

Interesting, sounds like a good opportunity for him. In all honesty, I'd rather he coach at UT then to see him coach us next year. I just don't have a good feeling about him coaching this team. 4 years ago I was all "Fire Doc!!! He stinks", but now I'm scared to see him leave.

Ugh, I would hate that. He's a really good coach and good replacement if Doc sits out next season. I watched all of the Nets games when he was there. He was a good coach

It must be that Danny has someone else in mind to replace Doc, so Frank is looking elsewhere to be a head coach

Does this mean I can start the "bring in Kevin McHale as associate HC and eventual Doc successor" thread, or should I actually wait until Frank leaves?

Though Kevin's commentary and rapport with CWebb on NBATV Fan Nite is a real treat (though he seems to like watching a little two-man game a bit much?).

Hear about this a week ago on a college hoops chat.  That'd be an excellent hiring for UT... Hope it doesn't happen I want Lawrence to be the successor of Doc.

I'd like to hear who the two other surpise canidates that Danny is looking at are.

While some are saying that Frank doesn't have a shot at the head coaching gig, that's not necessarily true.  Tennessee's interest really doesn't relate to this matter at all.  However, Frank's ultimate decision likely will.

If he goes, while it could mean that Danny has other plans, it also could mean that Doc is riding this out until the end of the Big Three era.

I am not that big a fan of Lawrence Frank.

I always thought his NJ teams lacked an identity. That they didn't have a firm style of play, an ethos ... an understanding of what they needed to do with their personnel to win games and play the type of basketball that leads to titles (and their two runs to the Finals) with a discipline to achieving those goals ... they were too loose with their play, team wise. The stars there just did what they felt like. Not enough direction, big picture wise.

That said, I thought Frank did a great job with his in game coaching though. Choosing effective lineups and figuring out the best way to matchup against their opponent. Creating and eliminating matchup advantages. Getting good combinations, players who worked well alongside one another, on the court together. Good use of timeouts. Nice plays out of timeouts. Very good Xs and Os guy. Great preparation before games, game to game, got his team ready for their opponent. Good motivator in this area too.

So long as he didn't try to change anything too much here ... Frank could probably do a good job coaching the Big Three and Rondo if Doc chose to leave this summer.

I wouldn't want him here beyond that point though. Not convinced about that other stuff, the stuff Phil Jackson does so well (and that Doc has done so well). Once the roster starts to change and the Big Three depart, I would be concerned about Frank's ability to lead the team going forward.

This. McHale did a great job developing KG in Minnesota when he was there and I think would be a great coach here.

Thank you Who.  I was about to ask why everyone seems to not be a fan of Lawrence succeeding Doc, but you answered my question.

I'd expect Shaka Smart to go to a school that isn't have these penalty sanctions against them.  VCU sure does a great job of hiring coaches.

Anthony Grant now at Alabama and Smart will be going to be a BCS school after this run no doubt.

Yeah, this was pretty much my impression of him as well: great preparation, right moves, but lacking any presence to lead; not an alpha dog.

At least this speculation is occurring before the playoffs. I didn't really like the fact that Thibs got the Bulls job during the playoffs, I actually believe it was somewhat of a distraction even tough most people say that it didn't affect him.

Thibs is 50, single, and lives and breathes basketball. I don't think the job offer from the Bulls affected him in any way.

Good for him, definitely a great opportunity.  There's a lot of talent on that roster despite the punishments
