Could Boston Have Dwight Howard In 2012?

On the topic of playing time in the All-Star Game, Doc Rivers said he was unsure if he'd play The Celtic's Big 4 together or if he would split them up.

Garnett suggested that Doc play Dwight Howard along side them, so he didn't have to play center.

Paul Pierce on the topic of playing with Dwight, "He'd look good in green."

You may also remember Doc Rivers a couple weeks ago was asked who he would play with the Fantastic 4. Doc responded playfully, "Whoever is closest to free agency."

Well that of course would be Dwight.

In 2012 The Celtics will be at a cross roads. The only two players under guaranteed contracts are Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce for 27.7 Million Dollars. In that same season LA will be paying Kobe 27.8 Million by himself. I'd imagine Dwight will command a salary similar to Lebron James and Chris Bosh, which starts out around 14.5 Mil. If the Celtics could have Rondo, Pierce, and Howard locked up for about 43 Million, they'd have a lot of spending room to fill out the roster. They'd even have the benefit of filling those spots with Hall of Famers like Garnett and Ray Allen.. as opposed to Mike Miller and Joel Anthony, which is what Miami Will be working with.

To answer the thread's topic:

Yes, but it's really unlikely.  

Going into the 2012-2013 season, Boston will  no longer have a particularly impressive roster.  There will be places much more enticing.  Playing next to Rondo isn't that great a prospect by itself.  I think most players around the league respect Rondo a lot, but perceive him as a guy who is to a large degree a product of the players that have been put around him.  He hasn't shown that he can consistently carry a team on his own, though he certainly does it at times.

So unless the C's make a mega trade (e.g. Rondo for D-Will and pieces), I don't see why Dwight would come here.

There's also a significant possibility the new CBA will have measures in it to give teams more ability to hold onto their stars.  My guess is Dwight stays in Orlando or goes some place like LA, OKC, or one of the Texas teams.

Ray+KG are going to retire after next season I believe, so we have this year and next if everyone stayes healthy to go after titles before the team splits up and becomes a project built around Rondo once again.

With Rondo being our top guy and Pierce (35 by then) either still starting or coming off the bench, I doubt Dwight would want to come to the C's.

I also heard Pierce say that he will retire once KG hangs them up as well, so we may be looking at just Rondo + a new Coach in the 2012-2013 season.

I have a strong feeling that Ray plays until he's 40, but I get what you're saying...
