So my birthday is coming up and I thought I'd share a funny story about my birthday from back in the day.

It was the early 90's when Nique was on the Celts and I was obviously a huge Celtics fan. So on my birthday (not sure how old I was but pretty young) my whole family was over for the customary birthday dinner and my Uncle is talking about how he met Dominique Wilkins at the Emerald Square Mall earlier that day. This particular uncles always seemed to bump into or meet famous athletes and would often get my brother and I autographs from them (I still have a Scottie Pippen and Eric Montross autograph from him).

So anyway we are eating dinner and all of a sudden the phone rings. My brother answers it and says it's for me, and I remember him telling me that it was an adult. Every adult that I knew was in that room though so I was nervous as I took the phone. I said "hello?" and what I heard on the other line was "Hi this is Dominique Wilkins from the Boston Celtics and I wanted to wish you a happy birthday!"....or something pretty close to that. I think I was so nervous that I said thanks and bye pretty much.I'm telling everyone in the room what happened and my Uncle is saying how he asked if he would call me on my birthday and he did!

Now fast forward to Christmas this year and I am with my immediate family and for some reason now, after all these years I look back on that day and think "that is absolutely ludicrous" there is no way that my uncle bumped into Dominique Wilkins, and Nique granted his request to call me on my birthday 5 hours after they met in a mall.

My siblings are basically making fun of me at this point saying that we need to ask my uncle once we get to his house for Christmas whether or not it was really Nique or not. So sure enough at the dinner table my sister kind of blurts out the question to him and he starts laughing and basically says no it was him or one of his friends on the line or something like that. At that point I was kinda disappointed that I found out the truth

Anyway thought I'd share that little story with some of you guys. I thought it was pretty funny that after all these years (maybe me not wanting to believe that it didn't really happen) Dominique Wilkins in fact did not call me on my birthday. I am now actually a little interested to bring up those autographs that he got me but maybe I shouldn't......

Haha.  Great story, although I wish your uncle hadn't told you the truth.

Happy Birthday (in the near future).

I am the brother who answered the phone 8) I have to say it did sound legit! It was just so funny that for all these years he truly believed Nique had called. The autographs are real BTW... I cant find my Pippen one though...
