  • No contaban con mi astucia !!!
Our rebounders are Perk and JO and somehow shaq
with 3 healthy we can work something out
in this team Pierce and Rondo have to be involved too in that
business.

  • You say when......
Doc and management got rid of the rebounders.....KG of course can rebound, but, that type of game has a high price...it is the "work" of the game, the blue collar rough stuff. Strength, power, and a lot of cheap shots, pushing, elbows, feet under yours when you land.....KG should NOT be forced to do all that, but he is our only really mobile big.

BBD is undersized, has jumping problems, and under motivated. The only time you get the most out of bbd, is when there is another player at his position, competeing for his minutes, ie sheldon, leon, lasme..now maybe gody.....Doc seems to love the baby, as we saw, he tried his best to play baby more than leon...but there was no way to keep leon down those days. Leon showed the C's what a rebounder adds. Did Leon ever try a 3, work to develop an outside 10 footer, NO. He did his job, what the C's asked and NEEDED.

You don't want kg, or rondo or pp to be your leading rebounder. It is the hardest work out there, and will tire them out......and this notion of "getting back on D" instead of rebounding..ha, that is what the other team will want to hear. If you ever played bball, a good rebounder on the other team will kill you, take the heart out of your team, cause infighting, fouls and a lot of points from 2nd chances.

Shaq does what he does, it is good, but he won't be that guy. JO could be that, but i don't see it, unless something changes fast. IT IS BBD's role, but he obviously doesn't want it. He would rather ruin our Offense by taking Rays shots Pauls shots, when he should be in the paint, cleaning up the boards..! So, unless we find a free agent.....

Don't expect Perk to be so physical after coming back from a major knee injury....Practice isn't the same as a game with the enemy. There is always a guy on the other team that would be more than willing to take Perks knee out in his first game. Look at how boozer elbowed bbd in the face at will. The league doesn't care, the refs don't either, it is pretty much always a GLADIATOR event, when you step on the floor, especially IN THE PAINT..! But, that is just my take..I could be wrong..!!!

the Celtics have gone from being a very strong rebounding team in 2008 to a weak rebounding team three years later - why ?

this year's team is missing leon powe, pj brown, james posey and, temporarily, kendrick perkins. also, paul pierce and kevin garnett are three years older and kg has been thru knee surgery and rehab since winning the title.

on the plus side, the Celts have added shaq and jermaine o'neil this season to bolster the front line. in addition, rondo has become the best rebounding point guard in the league.

so essentially, our post players have gotten older, bigger and bulkier, but have lost that quickness and explosiveness required to get to the ball first. rebounding is about positioning and quick feet along with a knack for reading where a shot is going to come off of the rim and then having the desire to go get it.

when are we going to stop being embarrassed on the boards - this weakness has already cost us one title - i don't want that to happen again.

KG is out.  He is a better rebounder then those who are replacing him.

KG is out.  He was the best help defender.  Without him, others have to step out more.  They do not get back into position to rebound as fast.

Has the rebounding really been that bad?  Is it that glaring of an issue?

I know the KG injury has hurt but I don't think rebounding has been a huge problem for this team.  I thought the out of flux offense last night contributed to our downfall.  Not necessarily rebounding although the Celts certainly weren't clicking in that dynamic, either.

Since KG has been out we've been severely outbounded (especially on the offensive boardss) in several games.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

After that game with Baby's ridiculous 3, Doc said he talked to him about his rebounding and passing more than that 3.  Then Baby came back with 11 rebounds and 8 assists in his next game--while saying he'd still take the same shots, whether or not Doc and his teammates liked it.  Since then, he has had a combined 5 rebounds in the last 3 games, leading Doc to say he's got to player fewer minutes and take fewer shots.

One thing that seems to be a recurring theme...guys like BBD continue to screw up when kg is not around.

He has filled in well before.

It is just a shame that when they need him this season, he is in a major slump.

It is more like bad decisions. When a shooter is in a slump, they take it inside.

One can make many arguments about this and the most obvious include age/injury, not having our wings crash the boards, and undersized players are at the top of my list.

When you have bigs setting high picks, shooting jumpers and then not crashing the boards this contributes to a lack of size or even just less bodies to get rebounds on offense.

The fact is, if you line up our roster against many others in the league we come up short in the back up (bench) department and old where we do have length in most comparisons.

We do not have a long and athletic bench player at any of the 3-4-5 positions. We need either a 6'9" athletic SF or a 6'10" plus athletic PF/C where we are playing BBD, Marquis, and company.

Posey filled this role in 2008. Other teams are able to take advantage of this lack of length on many levels. When KG comes out of the game, we have really no player at the 3/4 who isnt getting his shot blocked or his lack of length exploited on the boards.

The lack of length/athleticism at center is usually not an issue this season until we get in foul trouble by being outquicked/outjumped. It was an issue the last 2 years and cost us a 'Ship last year.

Adding a playing like Prince, Casspri, Marvin Williams, or whoever to play SF next to BBD and allow Marquis to play SG which is his more natural position would make a lot of difference in this area IMO.
