This is a really interesting and well written article discussing the difficulties facing the Wolves in figuring out how to effectively run their team:
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/22818/the-timberwolves-vs-conventional-wisdom

It addresses all of the most common criticisms of the Wolves as a poorly run / coached / constructed team, and brings in some stat-experts to weigh in on what changes they ought to make.  The results are intriguing.

Basically, the Wolves are a mess, but an interesting mess.

I think the article pretty much just demonstrates what we all kind of know already - the Wolves as currently constituted probably can't work.  They need to build around Kevin Love and get a real PG, which will require some shuffling.  They aren't a terrible team talent-wise, but the talent they have, at least right now, really doesn't fit well together.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

They need to move Michael Beasley. He is killing them.

They need to continue being a high lottery team and collect more top tier talent because they do not have enough top talent to be thinking about moving forward. Be patient.

Two simple moves.

Keep Love.  get Rubio to come over.  everyone else is truly expendable.  not that there aren't a few decent role players there but they've only got 2 chips worth keeping.

first and foremost though, they need to get a first-class GM and talent evaluator in there pronto.  they've been worse than the Clippers in picking players in the lottery.

I would keep Beasley. He is having a decent year. Keep Love get Rubio over and go from there. Get a coach that likes to run run run and then go from there with that.

I'm still not sold on Beasley. He's having a better year than last of course but he's still a one dimensional player. He'll score, but until he starts looking to get teammates involved and playing defense he's nothing special.

I agree they desperately need a legitimate PG, but that's been the case for quite a while now. If Rubio ever shows up it'll be huge for them.

I think by the time they get semi organized you'll see kevin love playing for the boston celtics  ;) or some other team.   He won't stick around for them to straighten that ship.
