I apologize if there's another thread on this. Does anyone think it could happen? I Stern just blowing smoke? Also, with this talk of cutting salaries by a third ,did Stern say anything about cutting ticket prices by a third? Thanks.

I'll believe it when I see it. I have no idea what was the least profitable major team ever, but even the Montreal Expos just moved, let alone contract. So did the Vancouver Grizzlies

What a Pub Should Be
I don't think so.
The Players Union would fight the idea of contraction tooth & nail. I think the league would have to make some major concessions for the union to accept contraction. Is that a fight the league really wants to pick?
I think circumstances would have to be dire in an NBA market for the league to contract. Way beyond anything we've seen so far.
I can think of an MLS team or two (Miami Fusion & Tampa Bay Mutiny) to be contracted recently but I can't recall without researching the last team in the 4 major professional sports to flat out be contracted?

No chance it happens.
David Stern already said as much. It not a serious bargaining position, just a talking point. Something they want to mention as a possibility and something to keep in mind in future negotiations ... but not something they'll spend much time discussing during these CBA negotiations. Just a mention. Nothing will come of it.
They are laying the ground work for the future in case it becomes necessary at some point.
