Quote
LOS ANGELES — From the friendly folks who gave you “The Decision,” comes ... “The Season!”
If something special is at hand, who better to bring all you want, and more, than ESPN, thrusting itself into another story as it will make the Miami Heat the first team in any sport to have its own section on the network’s website.
The Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic will continue being jammed into the NBA page with the other 26 teams.
Going all-out, ESPN hired Miami Herald beat writer Michael Wallace and Brian Windhorst of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, who has covered LeBron James since high school.
They will head a four-man staff covering every Heat game, practice and club appearance, or as ESPN puts it, “the culture, scene and lifestyle angles tied to South Beach.”

I so hope we get Miami in the playoffs.

ESPN's job is to get people to watch them.  If it gets them ratings then why not?  Hopefully it tanks.
Yup

I agree, this is ESPN as business.  They need viewers to make money and this is what they are attempting to do.

Let them do it and I join Redz in hoping they tank.  They did a similar bit of coverage for Alabama during their summer practices and it was simply to get us to watch.  As you see from the game in Columbia, SC today, it dosen't guarantee success.

Let's hope this puts pressure on the team to win 72 games so much that they fail, and like Redz said, "tank". I hope all this is pressure for them to be what everyone expects them to be, and they do worst than 66, and not even make it to the semifinals.

But I'm not mad, because I know this is a business, but still, this is ridiculous.
Yeeeaaaa!!!

  • You know my methods, Watson.
In all honesty, this is no worse than when Ahmad Rashad was Michael Jordan's personal media mogul years ago (or as Ahmad called him - "my main man Mike").

Look on the bright side, now a lot of us here can claim that we hated Lebron before hating Lebron was popular.

unlike the movies, in this case, the happy ending here is when they eventually lose and come up short in the playoffs :P

Ironically it's been insinuated that the author of that quote quit in last years playoffs.  I'm not sure I believe that because the insinuation I assumed came from the same authors camp as a way to excuse the beat down the C's laid on his team.  So in conclusion the author of that post (he who shall not be named out of fear his race will be used as another excuse as to why they got beat down in last years playoffs) quit but, now that his talents are in Miami he will be part of 6 or 7 NBA championship teams...  I can't wait to read some more quotes from the author of that quote when his team gets sent home packing again this season.

That is utterly disgusting but, par for the course and yes just another reason to hate (race isn't one I promise he who shall not be named since all my favorite players share his race...) the miami heat.

TP for info.  This is win/win for Miami if they win great if they lose it's because of the 'hate' (hate the new usage of this word but, since it's miami it's apropros..)  they received from even having the show in the first place.

Who cares about success, the concept itself is dumb.  But too each his own.  I thought the same of the Alabama crap.

Love it!

TP...

As for the "not 2, not three,...not seven" quote - I certainly hope it turns out to be an unintentional prediction of ZERO titles for the Heat!
