isn't there a rule that says that the Celtics can send 3 camp cuts to the D-League under their name? so our roster is essentially 18: 12 in the active roster, 3 who are on the inactive roster and can be called-up anytime, and 3 who are "playing for us in the D-League" but aren't officially on the roster.

Sort of.  As I understand it, our last three cuts would be assigned to our affiliate in the D-League (i.e., Maine) if they decided to sign a D-League contract.  However, they could still decide to go somewhere else (another NBA team, Europe, China, etc.).  Once in the D-League, they're free to sign with another NBA team as a free agent whenever they want, regardless of whether they're playing for our affiliate.

It's about time. The guy doesn't have NBA skills. He looked awful most of the Summer league. What was he going to do against true NBA talent… Nothing.
Ditto ... he shouldn't have lasted this long on the C's roster.

He didn't deserve a camp invite.

I think it is safe to say he just wasnt good enough at this stage and may not ever be good enough to stick on an NBA roster. I hoped he would be a defensive asset for us but that was unrealistic and a long shot from the start.

All he had to do was prove he could stay with Paul Pierce defensively right?  :o

Gaffney's biggest problem was he wasn't that great of a shooter.  He has all the tools to be a solid wing defender and has good size too for a 3.  He just doesn't have the offense to play the 3 as he played mainly post in college. He's a hard worker and will catch on somewhere I'm sure whether is the NBA or overseas, but if he could ever hit a 3 pointer on a consistent basis he'd be a solid role player.

A tweener that's not good at either of the positions he is playing between. I wish good luck to him, but I didn't think he was going to be able to defend 3's well enough to make the roster.

Can Lasme guard the wing or is he strictly an undersized big?

I know he's going to get cut, as well, but I'd rather see a bigger athletic body make the team than all these extra guards we are carrying.  If Stephane impresses during the pre-season, I'd be more than happy to make room for him by letting Wafer go.

SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Doc seemed to suggest yesterday that Lasme has the advantage over Gaffney not only on both defense and offense, but also on being able to defend the 3 and the 4.

Thanks, Clover,

I actually just saw that clip of Doc talking about Lasme in the other thread.  Unfortunately, it's all surely going to be moot, anyway.  For me, though, now that TG is gone, Stephan Lasme is the new guy for me to root for to make the team.

Does this mean marquis daniels is looking really good at backup sf ?  I understand dwest and vwafer are better players but I think we need some wing size.

Nobody on this board was really under the impression that this guy was going to make the team, were they?

He and Lafayette were signed last year as off season bait to trade as expiring contracts if the Celtics needed extra salary in attempting to make a trade. They could have been included in the trade and then cut. There simply was no way, once the C's didn't make a trade, that either player was going to make this team this year.

is any1 legitimately surprised by this.  he was fortunate to be in the situation he was last year and thru camp.  he was bound to be cut.

New information coming out of Celtics camp say Gaffney was not cut.  He needs to leave due to family issues  ;)

I find it interesting that some people here seem almost angry that Tony Gaffney got an invite to Celtics camp. I don't get it. He was the last guy cut byt he Los Angeles Lakers last year, who then went on to win the world championship. What is wrong with giving a guy like that a shot?

No point in having the size if they aren't going to play anyway. Gaffney would almost never see time, even if he made the team.
