He's signed with Memphis.

Why would we sign and trade for Xavier Henry? They have cap space to sign Tony Allen anyways. Furthermore any pick the C's could send will be lower than what Henry was selected at.

I'd love to have Xavier Henry, as well. I posted a link on the MEM situation with him on yesterday.

I just don't know if Doc would give him any minutes, though, and it would be assumed that both Marquis and Xavier would be Pierces' backups.

As for TA? He's showing up on MEM's roster on ESPN, so I'm believing that he did sign. I thought the deal was for 3 yrs 9.7 million or something close to that, if I'm not mistaken.

FWIW, there is no confirmation of Memphis signing Allen anywhere on the NBA.com league transactions page.

So does "Pro Sports Transactions"

NBA.com's Grizzlies official site has him on the roster

And the same official site has this quote from this article:

You could see the excitement in Tony Allen’s face in the Grizzlies’ locker room on Friday, July 23 when he made his first official appearance as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Tony Allen is not walking though that door.

Now, if Memphis is at a complete impasse with Xavier Henry about money, would they like the cheaper Avery Bradley in a straight swap?

Here's the press release:

Quote
The Memphis Grizzlies have signed guard Tony Allen to a multi-year contract, Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

We are pleased to add Tony Allen's veteran presence to our roster, said Wallace. He has become one of the leagues premier defensive stoppers at the wing position, and his big game experience and championship pedigree will be very important to the growth of our team.

Allen, a 6-4, 213-pound guard, comes to Memphis after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Boston Celtics, posting career averages of 7.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.04 steals in 18.4 minutes in 336 games (82 starts).

In 54 regular season games (eight starts) in 2009-10, Allen averaged 6.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.09 steals in 16.5 minutes while shooting .510 (129-of-253 FG) from the field.

Allen brings a wealth of playoff experience to the Grizzlies, advancing to the NBA Finals in two of the last three seasons and capturing an NBA championship with the Celtics in 2007-08. The 28-year-old has played in 56 postseason games (three starts), appearing in the playoffs in four of his six years in Boston. The Chicago native played a key role as a defensive stopper for 2009-10 Eastern Conference champion Celtics, leading all postseason participants in steals per 48 minutes (4.61) while averaging playoff career-highs of 5.1 points and 1.04 steals in 24 games.

The 2003-04 Big 12 Player of the Year at Oklahoma State, Allen was selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Celtics and their former General Manager and current Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace. Allen ranks in the Top 25 in Celtics history with 351 steals (21st) and 117 blocks (t-24th).

I'm not sure why this one has taken on urban legend status.  A lot of people seem to think Tony hasn't signed, when he has.
