Wafer will find out soon enough that okay doesn’t cut it defensively with the Celtics, but he is more prepared for the challenge.

I sure hope so.  Hopefully Rivers learned something the last three seasons.

Pre-Thibodeau, Okay defense under Rivers would have been All-World compared to that embarassing mess that Rivers, or Tony Brown, or whoever employed.

Wafer is saying the right things, anyway.

I think I’m an okay defender. The name of the game is putting more points up on the board than the other team.”

Older, yes....more mature..?...I don't think so.

Who says that? He was asked about defense and then says something like that? Not good.
There are two ways to think about the statement, "The name of the game is putting more points up on the board than the other team":

A. Need to score a lot of points
B. Need the other team to score few points

History shows that teams that follow the second principle win championships, and teams that follow the first principle win regular seasons ... if anything.

No doubt DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!

However, the team that scores the most points wins.
So you need to generate the offense somewhere.

Von Wafer will help.  If he matures, he'll help big.
I too noticed a bit of immature tone in that statement, but I also see a guy who wants to work hard and that's always good.

However, the team that scores the most points wins.
And the team that scores the least points loses. Your point?
