So, with Sheed retiring and not getting anything in return (not even paying a couple million to get a trade exception in return!) we are likely to add a 15th player now for the vet min...or wait until buyout season. So, who will be bought out? What will the C's need late in the year?

Common thought seems to be that the C's want a big(ger) SF backup type (my current favorite strategy would be to trade Davis straight up for such a SF, then use the vet min on Louis Amundson if he'd agree to that).

Here's the list of who will be free agents in 2011; i suppose veterans in the "Unrestricted" free agent category on non-contenders are the more likely to be bought out:

some names:
Dominic McGuire
Jamario Moon
Anthony Parker
Vlad Rad
Jeff Foster
Michael Redd
Peja
Battie
Reggie Evans
tayshaun Prince

That's about all I see as "vets on bad teams that are going to expire so they negotiate a buyout to play on a contender." But we'll see.

Or they may use the roster spot to grab a surprise undrafted D-league standout. Who knows.

Michael Redd looks a prime candidate. The Bucks have clearly moved on without him by signing John Salmons and Corey Maggette to be their mainframe scorers on the wing. And they have good talent in Delfino and Mbah a Moute behind them to round out the rotation.

It's doubtful Redd has anything left in the tank though. He was fairly awful last season and is coming off (another) serious injury.

I wouldn't expect the Pistons (Prince) or Pacers (Dunleavy, Foster, Murphy) to waive any of their expiring contracts. Those teams are too interested in the marginal improved win/loss records that those players bring. Ditto for Cleveland with Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon.

I also wouldn't expect the Raptors to waive Reggie Evans because he is a solid trade asset + isn't up to much as a player so he'll unlikely ask for a buyout.

I would also expect the Warriors to hold onto Radmanovic due to a lack of depth on the wings nowadays. If they added some more talent there though I could see them parting ways with him.

One player who I would keep an eye on is Elton Brand (who I have no interest in) ... Phily may choose to cut the cord with him one of these days and he has horrific trade value. Reminiscent of the Sixers waiving Chris Webber a few years ago when he had $40 million left on his ticket. If Brand fails to impress Doug Collins I can see them doing this (good likelihood, especially if coupled with Hawes as a starter).

Other names -- Mo Pete, E.Curry -- neither of whom are good enough to upgrade the C's.

If Redd takes his time and fully heals, I think he can eventually still play decently.  The Bucks may want to hold onto him so he can play a bench role in the playoffs next year, but he would be a great shooter off the bench for the C's by the end of the year.

All players coming back from injury(especially ones coming back early to prove something) look worse than they are at %100. Look at KG for instance. It took a year for him to get back to the best he could be. If we can remember back to the last time Redd was healthy, he was playing amazingly with the Redeem team.

Lets also add in the fact that he's only 30. Convince him to sign for the vet min and prove worthy of a contract. If he does okay, keep him for the 2 years, then move on. If he does do great or show signs of his good old self, then give him his last big contract so we can build with him,Rondo, and Perk.
Can't stop, Rondo!
