Offer up Sheed and a lottery protected 1st round pick for J.R. Smith straight up. He would be a great backup for us behind Pierce and Ray. Also someone to build the future with Rondo. Imagine those two running the floor together. I know J.R. is a headcase but being in a locker room with Melo and K-mart does not give you a lot of room to mature. So smith could come here get his head on straight and by 26 years of age could be starting with one of the best PG's in the game. Imagine the bench of..

Nate
Smith/Wafer/Bradley
Daniels/Smith
BBD/Gody
Shaq/Perk

We would be stacked. No team could defend that. Also switch it up and have him and ray in at the same time with Rondo and just run them off screens.. WHEW would be tough to cover! What do you think!!!

I doubt they would either, but I'm for Danny *asking* about JR for Sheed's contract and a 1st.

The only other 2-guards on Denver's roster are Coby Karl and Arron Aflalo.  No way they trade JR for Sheed's retiring contract.

If Denver's looking to dump a little salary, I'd be interested in sending them Gaffayette for Renaldo Balkman.  I've always been a fan of Balkman (though not as much as Isiah Thomas).  He offers some of TA's defensive tenacity and ball pursuit only at the combo forward spot.  Great rebounder and open-court player too.  Would be a real terror defensively and on the break with Rondo and Bradley.

This makes great sense for us, however the Nuggets do not exist for the sole purpose of helping the Celtics win another championship which is why this deal never happens.

A tremendously unrealistic idea.

It's the equivalent of someone in Cleveland thinking they could land Rondo with their trade exception.

Why does Denver do this trade? There is no reason whatsoever.

Well, there are few reasons where this could be plausible (maybe not this exact deal, but some incarnation of it), but I think it is unlikely unless it happened later in the season and Denver is a huge disappointment.

First, Smith is a headcase, and has given the coaching staff a ton of headaches.  At some point, they might just decide enough is enough, and try to move on and get some value for him.

Second, Denver was rumored to be in financial trouble earlier this offseason.  They are over the luxury tax, and getting rid of Smith's salary for Sheed's contract could really help in this regard.

Third, they love Aaron Afflalo, and he is probably the starting SG for the forseeable future.  They still have use for Smith off the bench, but it doesn't make him untouchable.

Now, I don't think Sheed and a pick is enough to pry him away, but if there is another falling out with the coaches, I could see something like Sheed, Davis, and a first being pretty enticing, and at the very least competitive with the other offers they are going to get for him.

Balkman would be a lovely addition and a great complement to Daniels and Von Wafer. Offers a different skill-set. A true forward with excellent rebounding and good defensive skills.

That would give the C's good options in choosing what type of wing they want on the floor in order to best match up with the other team.

Who do they have behind Aflalo though?  Coby Karl?  I guess they could play Billups at the 2 in spot minutes to open up time for Ty Lawson, but it's still really hard to see any JR Smith trade that doesn't bring them back something on the wing.

Maybe Avery Bradley and Sheed would entice them.

I'd love JR as a player.  So dangerous if you aren't depending on him for consistency, like a super-sized Nate.

He'd be a great guy to annoy LeBron with too.

I'm always disappointed that guys like Balkman and Singleton have such a hard time finding consistent minutes in the NBA.

If you plan on watching any NCAA games this season, I'd recommend you take in some games of Kenneth Faried with Morehead St. 2nd coming of Dennis Rodman.

Doesn't  JR Smith basicallly duplicate everything that Von Wafer is? I mean he may be a better shooter (more streaky, also); but he's just a good athelete, not a good defender. He's an athletic two guard who can come off the bench and score, but no much else. We already have that in Wafer, and Nate to some extent.

I find it funny when people throw out stuff like this.  Why not JR Smith?  BECAUSE THE NUGGETS WOULD NOT TRADE HIM.  Unless we made them a stupid offer that they couldn't turn down.

JR Smith is valuable as that streaky, scoring SG to the Nuggets. He is not moving.
