You're thinking of in two years when KG/Ray/Jermaine will all be gone. Even then with Pierce and Rondo's deals we likely won't have much space.

I think we WILL have quite a bit of space: Pierce and Rondo's deals will be worth about $25 million - $30 million in that pivotal season, leaving (based on the current cap, which will likely be different then) about $25 million in cap room, maybe a bit more. So we could have room for 2 max players, or at least close to that.
You have to consider whether or not we extend Perkins and any other players are signed in the meantime. I think they will be.

I'll also add that the timing doesn't match up with Melo's free agency.

The Snitchster belongs with the rest of the narcissist egos who will never win anything in Miami.

Melo is one of my favorite players in the league, he is the most complete scorer and so fun to watch.  Denver had a good run, almost knocked off LA in the Western Conference Finals 2 seasons ago (and actually would have if not for a few bonehead plays) but they can't put the team around Melo that others can.

I don't think it is guarenteed he is in New York, but definitely the most likely.  Would be an absolute dream to see him in Green.  People who say we won't be in the mix are forgetting we will have a number of expiring contract that will be valuable.  That is a good part of Danny's two year plan: if things go awry this upcoming season we will still have expiring contracts to make a neccessary move or blow things up.

The hypothetical CP3/Melo/Amare Knicks "Big 3" would be an offensive juggernaut in New York under D'Antoni but maybe he sees the appeal of playing for the Celts.  We'll have to see.

this brings back a conversation i had with a friend who is a hardcore patriots fan

he said one of the reasons to why the patriots are so successful is because they have a smart GM who spends money wisely. Players take a smaller contract to stay on the team so the team can spend money on other good players. Now i do not watch much football so someone can confirm if my friend is right or not

if he is, we can use the money from expiring contracts, spend it on two max players (Melo Dwight), and keep our remaining players for cheaper price? Now that is a stacked team...

Miami? NOPE

Imagine this lineup in 2013

Rondo/Nate/
Ray/Avery/Wafer
Melo/Pierce/Daniels
KG/JO/BBD/Gody
Howard/Shaq/Perk

Melo will be gone next summer. Boston has no play on him.

I dont put him in the ego category. His demeanor is pretty understated compared to the players in that circus team in MIA.

TP for calling him the snitchster though!

Maybe he will come here and help Rondo beat them every year, we can only hope, eh?
