Good for Barnes if he takes more money to play somewhere.  He really is one of the few NBA players who I think should have earned more over their career than they have.  For example, he (arguably) brings more to the table than does a player like Travis Outlaw, and yet Outlaw, in one year, will make about the amount Barnes has made over his seven year career.

Only 7.6 million?......ONLY?? This is exactly what I'm talking about.

Once you figure in taxes, the cut to the agent, the money to family members, etc, a contract average of $1M a year isn't that much for someone of Barnes stature.

This trade makes no sense to me in terms of the salary cap. Raptors used their MLE on Kleiza, Orlando used their MLE on QRich/Duhon, and Orlando has no bird rights on Barnes. This 4.5 million a year is more than a 125% raise. I'm missing something.

Some people believe that it is still possible for the Raptors, Kleiza, and the Nuggets to mutually agree to rescind the offer sheet, allowing Toronto to use their MLE on Barnes.

Which would probably only happen if there was a deal in place to get Kleiza more money, since the Nuggets let him go because they don't want to pay luxury tax.

So, I think people should start with the baseless speculation about how Ainge can use this situation to turn Sheed's contract into Kleiza.

They do, but Barnes needs to be signed. And it looks like neither Orlando nor Toronto can do it for the reported figure of 9 million. Unless Kleiza agrees to back out of the offer sheet, then this Barnes to Toronto thing ain't happenin.

Matt Barnes has never gotten more then a minimum contract in his career, I don't blame him for signing a contract for the most money he can get, it's not guaranteed that he will always be able to play in the NBA nothing wrong with making as much as u can when u can.


I wish him luck in Toronto, it seems like they are a team that has little hope, but the chemistry among their young players is actually really good, they could pull off a milwaukee esque surprise next year and make it to the playoffs. You never know in the East...
