Thoughts on having one of these guys as the fourth big while Perk is out/fifth big when Perk is back?

Definitely both of these guys would be LOL our Juwan Howard Stopper!!! JK

Seriously though they are vet. min. guys and I don't think there is really any options out there for the vet. min. that will be better. Smith is 34, same age as Sheed last summer, and Thomas is 38 but he seems like the better player. Clearly guys like Kwame and Shaq aren't taking the vet. min. to come to Boston so I am not really sure what better realistic options there are.

Thoughts?

I remember how everyone wanted Joe Smith a couple of seasons ago, and instead we got stuck with Mikki Moore  ::) but I'll pass now.

Same here.  Somehow Thomas has continued to be an effective big man while Smith has been in and out of retirement.

In and out of retirement - what are you talking about?  Anyway, we should have signed Smith last offseason (don't understand why that didn't happen).  Having him as a 5th big man instead of Shelden Williams would have made a big difference in Game 7.

Would definitely like Thomas. All indications are he's a high character/good locker room guy and if nothing else showed he can still rebound effectively (9 rpg in his 7 regular season starts in just 27 mpg/ 8 rpg in his 7 playoff starts in just 28 mpg). He can be a stop gap type player until Perk returns and fill in nicely for about 16-20 mpg until then.

I would love to give a vet min to Thomas. Smith, I dont think so. For some reason Thomas has been able to continue to be productive... Smith, well he never really has ever been productive.

I'd love to get Thomas.  He is a great competitor.  Every year you think the guy finally washed up, and every year the playoffs come and he makes play after play.  He gets as much out of his ability as anyone in the game.

I wouldn't mind Thomas, but like I said earlier I'd pass on Joe Smith.

Houston have offered him more than the minimum.

It looks like the Celtics have been priced out of the B.Miller market.

As others have said, I think Thomas would be better than Smith.  However, either would work.  I'm not incredibly worried about who we get there.  Perk will be back at some point, and we don't really need him to be himself until even the 2nd round of the playoffs.  Until then, while I hope for better, we could win 50+ games with Mikki Moore as our 4th big.

And before people start going off about KG's health, it doesn't matter who we have on the bench if KG goes down, because we're not going to win a title without him.
