Funny, but after listening to Rick Bucher on ESPNNews tonight, it appears that after the smoke clears nothing much will happen.

It might be that Bosh could be the only "key" FA to move...  I guess a lot can happen in the next few hours, but I'm now starting to believe that everything will largely be the same for most teams, including LeBron staying put in Cleveland.

Nothing can be made official or announced until July 8th anyway

even nothing means something, though....

I mean, who are the players going to be on all the teams that cleared space to make a play for the big FAs...?

I wouldn't be surprised.

Bosh, Amare and Boozer are the likely big pieces on the move.

Joe Johnson if there is a sign and trade.

Yeah who would be on the knicks and nets roster? that would be pretty interesting if every single big name free agent stayed put. I also still don't think lebron will stay in cleveland, they just have not built right around him.

Nowitski and Wade stay.  Bosh is gone.  If LeBron stays put, which I doubt, Joe J will go with either Bosh or Amare to either Chicago or Miami.  The New's (York and Jersey) makeovers soar like a lead balloon and bring new depths to the D-league-along-the-Hudson.  The real definition of mercenary will be the FA willing to go to the Clippers for near-max.

That would be funny and I think there is a distinct chance.  Unfortunately for us, does that mean that other teams get stupid and offer Ray and Paul absurd contracts?

Good points ... usually, where there's smoke, there's fire, but in this business, it's often just the opposite ... especially this time of year. ;)

Would not surprise me one iota to see Ray leave because someone overpaid him.

Report out tonight that Ainge is targeting Redick with the MLE. Perhaps an attempt to replicate Ray's shooting, knowing he may not return.

Where's the report from? I can see Danny liking JJ very much  ... would make a lot of sense, tho' I don't want to lose Ray. (TP)

Woj has it. He's worth bookmarking for the next little while. The guy is very plugged in.

Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge is trying to use Rasheed Wallace’s contract in trade talks, a move that would allow the Celtics to keep their midlevel exception, league sources said.

Wallace has yet to file retirement papers, so the $6.32 million owed him next season and $6.79 million in 2011-12 would come off a team’s books after Wallace is traded to them. They could do a deal and not take on his money. Ainge is trying to use the Wallace contract to bring back a power forward or center to replace Wallace and the injured Kendrick Perkins.

The Celtics could then use their midlevel exception for a different player. Several sources believe that Ainge’s target is Orlando’s J.J. Redick, who is a restricted free agent.

Boston has strong interest in Brad Miller in free agency and could try to acquire Dallas center Erick Dampier.

I'd think Orlando matches anything up to the MLE though...I mean he was better than Vince in the ECF, and they matched the Gortat offer from Dallas last year and Gortat was not nearly as big a piece as JJ IMO

Thanks, Bud. As I said, I don't want to lose Ray, (I'd be majorly bummed), but JJ would make a great replacement, or even add-on. He works his butt off and has a similar stroke, and I can see Danny loving this guy, (we already know Doc does).
