Give credit to Doc's family, according to AP (via Yahoo!)

Rivers said the decision to return came down to his family encouraging him to stay on.

“A lot of soul-searching with the family,” said Rivers, who was in San Antonio on Wednesday to watch his son, Austin, play for the United States against Brazil in the final of the FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship. “Talking to my wife, she was really the one who said, ‘You’ve got to.’ I just think she wanted me out of the house more than anything.

“My kids all said, ‘You’re a coach. That’s what you are. And you’re a parent, and we appreciate both.’ And so that made it easier.”

The Celtics need people like Doc, he's the anti-Stern

I agree that is just awesome, my in-law who's a huge Laker fan and hates the Celtics loves Doc. He's definitely well respected around the league, even by the enemy.

Were fortunate to have a great coach like Rivers on board for one more year. Him leaving would have left a even more sour taste in my mouth than it is from the finals loss. I'm really looking forward to next season now.

Doc won me over. A few years ago I thought we were doomed with Doc leading the way, but now I know he's the perfect, just perfect fit for this organization.

PS: The "We gotta do it TOGETHER" speech is the most emotional I've heard from an NBA coach.
