Folks, the Celtics aren't traveling coach class, like many of us do, crammed like sardines for 5.5 hrs. They have a chartered flight (sorry, team plane) with nice coaches to lounge around and get comfortable the whole way.

Finally, when they arrive at either LAX or Long Beach (or Ontario CA, if they're worried about local hecklers), they'll be sleeping an additional 2+ hours at the hotel, due to the timezone shift, and be fully rested. This is the magic of east-to-west coast travel. It works out great for the east coaster but is a bad thing for the business traveler coming out from Cali for the first few days in New York or Boston for a meeting or conference.

We're in good hands.

I like the optimism, but I just don't see it as a good thing.  The game is still at 9pm EST (6pm local time), so they really aren't benefiting from much extra sleep, if any.

You're right that the flight is probably more comfortable for the Celtics than it is for the average traveler, but it's hard to say that the flight is a "plus."

One thing about flying is that the pressurized cabin can tend to aggravate an injury like Bynum's.

but it's hard to say that the flight is a "plus."

I remember a business trip to Long Beach where at a 10AM meeting, I was sharp as a tack! The client partners were impressed with my presentation. Granted, the work itself was "good" but I definitely noticed my own mood lift since I was feeling it was in the early afternoon.

I woke up at 8 AM (using both the alarm plus the guest services *wake up* call) but unlike the usual day, I was really refreshed. My body had felt that I was sleeping in, a tad late, and it really did wonders for the rest of the day. And this was traveling sardine class the prior day. I can only imagine being in a luxurious private charter.

We are talking about professional athletes who need their bodies and brains and athleticism to all work together. Not a person doing a presentation to a board room of people.

Terrible comparison. No offense intended. Just don't think how you preformed during a presentation is something to be compared to a professional athlete who has to perform at his best to be successful.
