i have a good friend (joe gallagher) who 1) was an assistant under jim o'brien in boston & 2) is a cigar smoker himself. he's actually the person that got me smoking them 18 years ago.

me being a life-long Celtics fan, when joe was with the Celts, i of course, hammered him with questions, mostly about Red.

cigars naturally came up in the conversation after joe had been with the franchise a little while, and he asked Red this very question. Red's answer ?

"Whatever someone gives me."

true story ............ not that i would ever drop a name in conversation.
