Just watched the guy on First and 10. They were discussing Rondo's importance, and Bayless contended that Pierce was still more important than Rondo (nothing wrong with arguing that, I suppose). But when making his point, he called Rondo "wildly inconsistent," saying that he's way up one game and way down the next game.

Ummm, why do they even let this guy talk? If he knew anything, he'd know that Rondo has easily been the most consistent player this entire postseason and season for that matter. I guess some people still won't buy into Rondomania, but they will soon!

I don't think that he's that far off to just call him an idiot because of this. For the most part he has been one of our biggest supporters this year, so I'll give him a pass for the time being.

there's a reason he's called Skip Clueless.

Yeah, I don't really see that what he said is wrong.  Rondo is inconsistent to some degree.

I don't think I'd call him "wildly inconsistent", but Rondo is not a guy you can count on every game.

He's still the most consistent Celtic at this point.

He was playing consistently well until his back spasms set in.

Rondo's much, much, MUCH more consistent than he was in 2008, or even last year, but when he's just having an "OK" night, we're usually losing.  Rondo's such a key part of this team, it becomes obvious when he's just playing good, instead of dominating.

In 2008, Rondo was either good or terrible.  In 2010, Rondo's either good or outstanding.  If Rondo's not playing superlatively, it's hard for the old guys to make up the difference.  But, guys like Pierce and Ray and KG can have bad nights and we can survive, IF Rondo's playing at his peak level.

Rondo definitely does have his ups and downs. But yes, Skip Bayless definitely is an idiot. Not for this, just in general. In his defense though, he knows he's an idiot. That's why he gets paid. He's an entertaining idiot.

Rondo is much more consistent than last year, and is at least a solid-to-good contributor in 85% of the games he plays.

Where the inconsistency comes in is that he has the potential to be dominant, but doesn't always show it.  Game 4 against Orlando was an aberration of a terrible game, but in Games 5 and 6 and Game 1 against LA, Rondo was still below his usual par.  It's the difference between playing a solid game, and playing to his potential.  Doc calls it playing "with speed", and I think that's right; Rondo has a sixth gear that he doesn't always kick in.

Interestingly enough, last night Rondo had a pretty poor shooting night.  However, he had an excellent game because he was aggressive, hustled, and was attacking with speed all over the court.  That's what we need from him.

Also, of course, it's no coincidence that Rondo played better when Ray was having a great game.  Ray's shooting opens up a ton of space, and LA switching Kobe to Ray helped, as well.

I do think Skip Bayless is an idiot, in a Steven A. Smith or Jemele Hill sort of way.  He's a needlessly bombastic contrarian who would rather throw out loud statements, rather than nuanced and substantive analysis.  He's the exact type of talking head that we could use fewer of.

That may have been Rondo in '08/09 but, when Rondo ' doesn't show up now ' he get's 13/8/6.

He most assuredly not wildly inconsistent.  That's hyperbole and classic Skip Clueless.

I do agree though that Pierce is most important player over all while Rondo is the most talented and will only get better.

Rondo is still pretty inconsistent, but the difference is that 2 years ago some games he'd play like an All-Star and other games like a scrub.

Now some games he plays like an All-Star and others like an all-timer  :D

Exactly what I was planning on saying as I had been reading along.  TP for putting it in words much better than I would have though.  Add Jim Rome and Mike Felger into that group too.
