Last time was easy. Two years ago they had the best record in the league and homecourt throughout the playoffs. They got their rings, and now they’ve already beaten the Lakers as many times as Bird’s Celtics [team stats] beat LA.

But there is an intangible on this team that we rarely see in sports, an odd confluence of focus and fury that its opponents just cannot match. Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Dwight Howard are home now, trying to figure out what hit them, and the Celtics are on their way to LA, where the last of the Chosen Few awaits.

The Lakers have homecourt. They have the best player. Some people think all this makes them the logical choice to win the championship. Some people just haven’t been paying attention.

For the Celtics, this isn’t about winning a ring. This is about denying the Lakers a ring. This is about stopping Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson, the same way they stopped LeBron and all the rest.

You want to know what’s pushing this angry band of agitators to another level of intensity and aggression? Just this: The insatiable desire to rip the heart out of another golden boy and stomp on it at center court.

These bad mothers from Boston will do it again, one more time. In LA, of course. In six.
