  • You know my methods, Watson.
"Should not have been PUBLISHED."  Makes it sound like it was okay, so long as the joke stayed behind closed doors.  If there's such a thing as karma, I wouldn't want to be the author...
"It was easier to know it than to explain why I know it."

Thing that bothered me about this is that that article was published in LA, Pierce's home town where his family is from. I just can't imagine a Boston sportswriter taking a pot shot like that at a local guy no matter heated the rivalry between the teams.

I just can't fathom that a Boston sportswriter would take a pot shot at Chris Nilan no matter how heated the Bruins-Canadians rivalry got. Likewise I can't see a Boston sportwriter taking a shot at Doug Flutie or Fred Smerlas, no matter how much the Bills and Patriots hated each other. Same goes for locals who may have played for the hayed Yankees. I just don't see the sportwriters in this area taking nasty shots at a local guy who would have family in the area.

Of course, I am now 100% sure someone is going to dig up an article where a local guy did do such a thing, but I can't remember it.

Retracting that is the equal of "suspending somebody with pay".

Reporter still there in good standing....Damage already done.

Too late...damage is already done.

Btw that previous article was clearly written in bad taste. It's one thing to hate the C's due to the whole rivilary thing, but don't cross the line with getting personal and taking cheap shots at P's stabbing incident or make a joke on Ray's mom.

Am really hoping that Pierce and Allen shoot the lights out tonight at the Staples Center.

What irks me even more than how tasteless the "joke" was is how classless the writer is. The so-called apology he gave doesn't reflect he saw much wrong with what he did at all.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

I think he shouldn't have retracted it.  I know he probably didn't have much choice, but seriously, it wasn't that bad, and by retracting it, it just makes him look worse (although it gives the LA times more hits, which was probably the point).  I guess I am just used to reading blogs more than articles from a real newspaper, but I think that was pretty tame.  You have to own it though.
