For two years in a row now the Magic have taken their core of players only so far and have fallen short. It's pretty obvious that this club needs a real PG and a player who can create his own offense off the dribble when teams play Dwight Howard well defensively without double teaming him.

Vince Carter is too old and never had the heart to be what they wanted him to be. Jameer Nelson is just another in a long, long list of PGs across the league that are just short shooting guards that can handle the ball well and can't guard the bigger, better SGs(Mo Williams, Monta Ellis, Beno Udrih, Will Bynum, Flip Murray, Aaron Brooks, Eddie House, etc being others). Rashard Lewis is a terribly soft, overpriced PF that should be playing the SF role but just isn't quick enough.

But because the owner of the team gave GM Otis Thorpe the okay to spend last year the Magic do have some interesting pieces to dangle as trade bait as well as some interesting players who's contracts are up and will need renewing.

Would you try to explore signing any of the Magic players(JJ Redick, Matt Barnes, Jason Williams) or try to trade for any of their players in a possible three way trade like Ryan Anderson, Marcin Gortat, or Brandon Bass?

If Tony Allen becomes expendable or just isn't in the picture, I gotta say I might not be too upset with throwing some of his money in the direction of JJ Redick out of the MLE if Outlaw or Miller aren't available.

Also, if there was a way to land Ryan Anderson, I would covet him as a 4th or 5th forward for this team. I think he is vastly under rated by most.

I'm not sure that Mo, Monta and Jameer are in the same breath as Eddie House, Flip Murray and Will Bynum. And Flip is a point guard?

I agree they do need a closer, a guy who can get buckets whenever he wants. Howard is similar to KG in that respect - neither is a guy you can rely on offensively to carry you in the fourth consistently, in the way you can Kobe or Pierce.

I would be interested in Redick -- if only to keep him away from other playoff contenders. He's a real pest and has a knack for knocking down shots that keep his team in the game or build their lead to an insurmountable number.

Ryan Anderson was quietly a pretty good player in New Jersey. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Celtics uniform. After all, he stretches the floor with his shooting and Doc loves that.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I think it would be pretty hard to trade for him but I would love to have Brandon Bass. Kid is a workhorse.

I like Redick, but I think we need to fill bigger needs with our MLE, especially since we can get Ray and Tony back with Bird rights.

I do think there are a lot of guys who could help on that roster.  Gortat, Anderson, Bass...  all are under-utilized, and could be rotation players for a lot of teams.  However, I don't think we have the pieces to get any of them.

Redick isn't much of a player. He gives up almost as much on the other end (defense + rebounding) as he contributes offensively.

I particularly dislike the idea of Redick + Ray supplying two thirds of the minutes on the wing. Especially with Pierce's own rebounding contributions declining too. That would be the worst rebounding wing rotation in the league. If we still have Sheed in the rotation, that is a lot of pressure on Perk/Garnett/Rondo/BBD on the backboards.
