Truths

Yes, I'm a Lakers fan
Yes, I hate the Celtics
Yes, game 6 still hurts

Yes, I'm rooting for the Celtics....gross.

Take 7 games to do it but please beat the Magic.

If the Lakers were to lose, I'd rather it be at the hands of the Celtics rather than the Magic.  I'll laugh if the Lakers beat the Celtics but I'll give a couple of grudging props if the Celtics are lucky enough to win.

I'm here mostly to see what you are saying, not to argue, maybe a little gloating after every Lakers win.   ;D

This rematch was 2 years coming, fellas.

Welcome to the blog.  Please keep the gloating to a minimum, though; I can warn you in advance that it's not going to go over well.

We're all for respectful debate and discussion, though.

Thanks for the welcome.

I understand I'm on a Celtics site.  I know there will be plenty of Laker hating and that's to be expected.

Gloating will be kept to a minimum; please pardon a little exuberance if the Lakers do win the series.

And if the Celtics do win, I'll stick around long enough to offer some minimal congratulations before I sneak away into the night.

Wow---I step away from the blog for a few hours and look what happens...

Sad to see omen1078 resort to the ingnorance. I had a similar moment with an anti-Celtics fan last year. The ignorant fella told me that his sister was going to a college in Boston, and experienced racism.

He then proceeds to ask me: "How can you like Boston?"

I told him: Because they have a Tradition of Winning---and while I was sorry that his sister had that experience, I asked him this question:

"Do you think everyone in Boston is racist because of that one unfortunate incident?"

He looked down and walked away.

Welcome, Bynum4MVP.

I love to see LA fans here. I visit Silver Screen and Roll every now and then, so it's all good.

The funniest posts will be all the Celtic gloom when you guys are losing.  I've lurked on your boards before and this new found confidence is actually very shallow.  Not a month ago you guys were ready to trade Ray, Sheed, Pierce, and [dang] near everybody else.

And for the guy who brought up 9-2 in finals?  It's 2-2 since 1980.  Holding onto championships earned in a time when NBA players had to work two jobs in the off-season just to stay afloat doesn't mean anything.  It's 2-2 in the modern era of the NBA.  This next series can be a tiebreaker.

Its too bad, though, that the city voted "most racist in America" doesn't have a Bird or McHale to root for these days.  How exactly does that work in Boston? Someone inform me. Do you just pretend Scalabrine is a real player?  Do you give black people a pass when they have on a Celtic uniform?  Not gonna lie, watching Boston fan have to root for people they secretly hate is kind of entertaining, especially after all the racist smack they ran on the Lakers in the 80's.

And that's how trolls get banned.

Byebye now, Damien.

Hello, Lakers fan from the sixties checking in.

Here's another thread at a Lakers board where Lakers fans are clammoring for Boston to make it to the finals.

http://thelakersnation.com/forums/index.php?/topic/37990-your-preferred-finals-opponent-orlando-or-boston/

Seems the irresistable force is about to meet the immovable object. Only one will stand at the end. Some fans will be correct with their prediction and very happy and the others will be wrong and quite sad..

I enjoyed reading this thread, most of the replies were well written. I've been clammoring to face Boston since last year, we do plan on getting revenge and our 16th title. Best of luck when the big dance starts.

Welcome, Laker_55..yes, one shall stand, and one shall fall...if we can keep our foot on ORL's neck so far, then our dream of meeting LA will come to fruition..

If there were two or twenty Laker fans all sitting together there they would all be wearing #24. It will always be Kobe AND the Lakers. Regardless of how good a player Pau Gasol is.

Laker fan here. Not here to simply talk trash, but to discuss this eventual revenge/rematch Finals that we will have upon us, which I am incredibly excited about! Revenge shall be ours! (Or so I'm hoping, of course lol)

After reading through this whole thread, I must say that I find it a bit funny how some of you feel that this team will easily be destroyed by your Celtics. I'm not going to say that our team is all mighty and powerful, but I think we're good enough to win it all again this year.

A few things I would like to point out from what I read on here, that I found to be quite silly.

First of all, while it may be true that it seems the Lakers may be just "coasting" through the West, I wouldn't say that the C's have gone through a "much tougher" road to the Finals either. Sure, on paper, they did, going through the Cavs and the Magic, but realistically, the C's have also been coasting through the East:

1) Miami had D-Wade. The end.

2) Blah, blah, blah about the Lebrons (I hate that guy). Even you guys give him way too much credit, saying things like "if we could stop/slow down D-Wade AND Lebron, then we can with Kobe!" as if Kobe is some 3rd rate player (someone on here mentioned he was 3 at best, I think).

As ridiculous as it may sound, I also think that Lebron tanked those games. How does he come out and single-handedly destroy your team in Game 3, then become a total non-factor the remainder of the series? I know that players can go through bad stretches, but for someone that is supposedly so good and so tough n' what not, he really didn't put his best performance on display. There's no way you can deny how passive he was in those games. Even in that blowout game 5 victory, it wasn't that Lebron "got shut down." We must not be watching the same games if anyone didn't see how passive Lebron was, not scoring his first points until midway through the 3rd? He didn't care for the championship because everyone thinks he's going to "get it eventually," so why bother trying when everyone and their mother is simply willing to throw everything at him (it's already begun) and give him max money, ring or no ring.

Either that, or he's simply not as good as people say he is. Or at least not when it matters most: the postseason. And for those of you who think that Lebron is a better defender than Kobe, you're sadly mistaken. Seriously, just think about how Lebron said "if the coaches ask me to, I will guard Rondo." IF! Someone on here said that Lebron couldn't even guard Rondo, but that's mainly cuz he didn't even try (he was still stuck on Pierce in that game 5 and you know it). Still, Lebron's "defense" are his run-from-behind blocks. Kobe DOES lag on defense sometimes, and it p---es us off when he roams around (which will cost us against you guys if he does that and yes, we know it). But when he's on it, he's on it.

So, with all that being said, and the fact that Lebron WAS the Cavaliers, once Lebron stopped trying, it was done. So, the Celtics were not heavily tested in this series, at least not enough for you guys to think that since you took them down then our team should be pretty easy as well.

3) The Magic - What can I say about this team? Yes, they are talented, however, we may have been deceived by their 1st 2 opponents (much like the Cavs last year when they went 8-0). Not only that, but they don't have the experience nor the drive necessary to win it all. You would think that being in the Finals this year and possibly being in the Finals again with a potential revenge/rematch against us would have been enough motivation enough, but I guess it wasn't. You can't really say that all of these guys got a good amount of experience from last year since they took out a C's team with no KG, and they played a Lebron team that was riding a horse so high that they took it easy and were simply not good enough. Add to that, Jameer Nelson missed the whole playoffs except the Finals, so he didn't get the experience needed, and although Vince Carter is pretty good, he lacks that drive that Kobe has to win, which would make him a much better player.

So, in other words, although the Magic were a good team on paper, their "live by the 3 die by the 3" mentality makes them easy to contain (unless they start hitting shots, of course, which they have had many open looks they simply didn't make). Also, for a team that was supposed to be really good to come out in a do-or-die situation to try to win game 3 and give such a p--- poor performance (e.g. that hustle play by Rondo to take the ball from underneath Jason Williams), it's truly disappointing for anyone who is an NBA fan not rooting for the Celtics. It's like watching the ORL-ATL series all over again, with ORL lacking all the effort.

So, in conclusion, I say that both you guys and us have been disappointed with our team during the regular season, however, both our teams have stepped up at the right time, but neither team has truly been tested in this year's mediocre NBA playoffs.

I think this year, although many of you are saying to be careful what we wish for, well, we're confident we can beat your team in a 7 game series this year. Bring it! :)
