I don't think Dwight is on his way to becoming one of the best Centers in either peak or career value. We discussed this in Roy's where does he rank in the last 30 years thread, and he was in the 5-10 range (by consensus.) Throw in the guys like Wilt, Old School Kareem, Russell and he's not going to be top 10 all time at his position.

He's got to be a better free throw shooter, Shaq could miss all those free throws because he was otherwise so efficient. Dwight not so much.

I think ORL puts way to much emphasis on running offense through Dwight. I guess when Carter is the only other guy you can call a first option you have no choice, but they'd be better off if Dwight was a second option, he's unstoppable once your center has committed to help someone else.

I always thought that part of Karl Malone's greatness was the fact that he he John Stockton feeding him the ball, running the offense, getting him the ball in the best spots and at the best times. Malone is an unreal talent but he was an all-time great because of Stockton.

I can see Howard being the same way. He's an unreal talent. But he would be all-time great if he had Chris Paul or Rajon Rondo or Deron Williams, three of the best young pure passers in the game, passing him the ball and setting him up for the next decade, like Malone had with Stockton.

Howard just should be the guy that gets the ball and...boom.....quick move and/or burst....scores. He shouldn't have to try to create his own shot or set up others in an inside out scheme. He doesn't have the overall talent or court presence or court vision to pull that off ala a Duncan or Garnett or Shaq.

Otis Thorpe needs to see this and do what he can to secure a pure PG to team up with Howard.

I agree with you here...and i was one of the posters who don't feel Dwight will be Top(10) in centers when its all said and done...i was amazed with what Magic Johnson said last night that Dwight should come back next season and play basically with the same intensity he played with in game 5,6...he will take his team to the championship.Magic is suggesting Dwight will get away with his 80's brand of bb in the future.I feel once this season is over the league will make sure the ref's clean it up by next season. He will not be able to take over games with brute strength alone.Unless he develops a real offensive game he will come up short again.TP
