Paul agrees to opt out of his contract and negotiates a lower base with more years. And Ray signs for league exception.  So that we have enough $$ to make a play for a big FA.  Which one would you go after?  Personally, I feel that Stoudamire is the best fit for what we would need.  He would be a great finisher for Rondo's drive and dish, plus give us more of an inside offensive force that we are lacking.  Joe Johnson, although a great player, is somewhat redundant of Ray.  Lebron?  Needs the ball in his hands too much.  Ditto Wade.  Not saying that Stoudemire is the best FA out there, just that he would be the best fit here. Not even sure that this would work cap wise (probably would not), but love the idea of it.

It can't work.  We cannot get under the cap to get a FA this summer.

There's not going to be enough room to sign a max free agent, regardless of whether Ray leaves and Paul gives us a bargain extension.  The deals for Rondo, Rasheed, and BBD put that to rest.

If we needed to sign one star, though, it would be Lebron.  He's simply the best player on the planet.

Yep.

That's why I say sign and trade Ray, the # 19, a future 1st and Davis for Lebron (after they convince Lebron to come to the defending champs and he tells Cleveland he will only sign and trade to the Celtics, otherwise he leaves the Cavs for no compensation to the Cavs)

Ray then forces a buy out.

30 days later, he resigns with the Celtics.

Nice to dream on a Friday.

Maybe in an And 1ish sort of way.

Or, in a "can dominate in all aspects of the game" sort of the way, including fourth quarter / clutch scoring.

He just needs some help.

This is my dream scenario as well except why would cleveland want BBD when they already have Powe lol.

Cleveland then releases Ray.

Fine, fine, fine.

No Davis.  Instead Wallace is included in a three way sign and trade to join Larry Brown in whichever team he is coaching for what ever player they would give up going to Cleveland.
